As many of you know, northern CA. is battling catastrophic fires. There seems to be no end...
The latest news sounds absolutely devastating. 17,000 structures threatened? When does this madness end?

The Caldor Fire is moving closer to Lake Tahoe, leaving firefighters, residents, and the recreational area's many resorts on edge.

The blaze ignited on August 14 a few miles south of Grizzly Flats in El Dorado County. Since then, it has burned 184 square miles and destroyed 455 homes. Firefighters have been working nonstop to try to put out the fire, but it is only nine percent contained and threatening more than 17,000 structures. A dozen major fires are burning in California now, with 14,000 firefighters trying to put them out. Heavy smoke is drifting into northern Nevada, and schools in Reno were closed on Monday and Tuesday because it's not safe for children to breathe in the air.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Chief Thom Porter said on Monday the Caldor Fire is the country's top priority for firefighting resources. "It is knocking on the door to the Lake Tahoe basin," he added. "We have all efforts in place to keep it out of the basin, but we do need to also be aware that it is a possibility based on the way the fires have been burning."

End?

Maybe in a long long time after we have people cheering as a lying shit calls AGW a Chinese hoax. But probably not for even longer. It's a little too late to avoid consequences. Especially when "wait until everyone else is doing something" is a common refrain (repackaged as "well, China and India pollute so much, so what does it matter what we do?")

Eventually the Cascadia subduction zone will let go.

The fire problems in the western states is due clearly to the federal departments under ALL the Presidents since Clinton.

Which departments are you referring to and which policies do you think contributed to the problem?

We have been in a drought for more than 20 yrs and we have built cities and towns in environments that can't safely sustain the growth of populations in certain areas.

You are kidding, right?

It's just the beginning.

Welcome to the climate change scientists have been warning about and politicians did not do enough about.

I think we are past the point of no return based on latest IPCC report... now we are just going to see how bad it's going to get and whether it will still be survivable enough.

It's kinda like unvaccinated covid patients in ICU asking when is their suffering going to finally end (many still not believing they even have covid).

If it makes you feel better, other places in the world are also on fire... Greece, Russia, etc... all have biggest fires they've ever seen. (Russian one is bigger than ALL other fires combined)

A half degree increase in average temperatures isn’t enough to light a tree on fire silly

Lol.

you should unplug from the disaster porn. It’s bad for mental health

Longer then that, since the Endangered species act.
If we increase clear cut logging we’d have less fires.

what we are seeing is a return to historically normal fire activity, mega fires were the norm until human settlement because forest management reduced burnable fuel

With all the fires out there every year, I'm surprised California isn't bald.

Why? The fires are what provides for young new forests to grow up in their place.

Old growth forests are basically giant graveyards. A fire burns through them and there’s room and soil for new growth

It was just a stray thought.

I doubt if the people threatened by those fires are cheering them right now.

Did she actually say that? I keep seeing this claim and it’s never actually sourced
AMAZING how there are those who could simply click on Google search (or some search engine) and find the answer.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Greene suggested that laser beams from space may have started the 2018 California wildfires, and that among the entities behind this conspiracy were former California Gov. Jerry Brown, Pacific Gas & Electric, and Rothschild Inc., an investment firm frequently targeted by anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists.

It seems to be a combination of weather and lack of forest management. The Native Americans practiced controlled burns to clear undergrowth and sometimes to lay a fire break. I don't know if it would help now, but it might be something to consider.

It ends when the drought (which is appearing to be the new normal) results in a new equilibrium. This equilibrium means heavily reduced foliage, thereby providing less fuel for fires. It's why you don't see a lot of news coverage about fires in the Mojave Desert.

Global warming resulting in new weather patterns, i.e. much less rain, resulting in dried up trees that catch fire if you so much as look at them funny.

We don't have the manpower or the money to manage the totality of the West Coast.

Yeah, you guys have a lot of trees, that's for sure. Good luck.
