California has the highest aggregate (combined) taxes in the country.

This is due to our failed leadership in Sacramento. They recklessly spend taxpayers' money on stupid crap and boondoggles. Millions have fled the state because of uber-high taxes, making the tax-base smaller.

So what's the absolute stupidest thing that legislators could do that would make matters even worse?

Raise Taxes even HIGHER, thereby forcing even more of the tax base to leave the state.

I don't even need to say what the idiot dems are planning. You already know what they're going to do. Yep . . . Raise taxes. LOL

Not only would this planned tax hike apply to full-time California residents, but part-time residents would also be hit with their liability determined by the number of days spent in the state. Yikes.

California legislators are sending a clarion message to the productive people who earn money:

The more money you earn, the harsher we will punish you for being productive!

What a pathetic message to send to people. 😞

I recommend you do some research on low-population states. Nebraska is one of them. Taxes on farmland (which in most states are lower than urban property) are higher there than on my house in Washington state. Plus, it has an income tax and a sales tax and you don't get much at all for what you pay. And, then there is the winter to deal with. At least California has decent weather, lots of beauty in their parks, and any kind of entertainment and food that anyone could wish for. And jobs.

You can move or you can start a whine thread on DP. Of course there are more options but you went with #2.

I moved to Oklahoma via Montana from California. My dollars go much farther here than both those places except for pickup trucks or trucks of any kind they really hold their value here. I am literally in the middle of the country one of the reasons I moved here. I have access to major rail lines to all compass points same with multiple major highways. Even got access to waterborne logistics for my larger projects. I wish I could have stayed in California, but unfortunately staying cost more than I wished to bear. I live in a town of of just under 2000 people half way between Tulsa OK and Joplin. I am happy with my decision nobody bothers me and everyone is friendly even though they know I am a refugee from California. Montana was nice. Unfortunately Missoula is run by morons and the rest of MT doesn't really fit logistics wise for my needs, not to mention the expense to live there was going up quite a bit. The natives didn't like Californians. I dont blame em. Oklahoma has plenty of work and opportunity. Its like Texas in a great many ways, and the good thing is not many people think of it as a place to move.

I grew up in Broken Bow.

Oklahoma used to be full of kind, decent, rugged individuals with iron clad bullshit detectors. How they got taken by a New York City flimflam man is beyond my understanding. Something broke them. I don’t know what. I miss the people they were.

Thankfully you cannot formulate a proper argument, so you must post crap this this.

Good. You are useful to me. 🙂 I will use your non-argument as an example of how NOT to make a point.

I must be missing your point. How do the taxes in a low-population state like Nebraska have any bearing on the taxes in a high population state like California?

Taxes in California are too high and they have been for decades. Over the past 3 years, millions of Californians have fled to other states with better leadership and lower taxes. (Arizona, Texas, Florida, et.al.)

Instead of doing the smart thing and lowering the high taxes, they stupidly RAISED taxes even higher, which will cause more people to leave the state, dwindling the Tax Base even more.

How does Nebraska factor into that?

You are and were talking about people leaving, lowering the population and thus increasing the taxes for the people still there. I just pointed out that in states with low populations (lower than CA, of course, but the same logic applies) can have even higher taxes than, for comparison, WA state. The cost of maintaining roads, schools, etc. are paid by fewer people and those fewer people have to pay more. I know. I inherited farm property there and finally sold it as the taxes on it were so high that it wasn't much of an income producer. And, I had to pay taxes on what income it did produce. So, bye-bye Nebraska.

It's great hearing from people who were able to flee California for better states. Oklahoma is a pretty state - I was there for a week visiting relatives. Saw my first and only tornado in Oklahoma. Scary!

That's a blessing. Natives of other states often shun refugees from California.

Hasn’t that been the case since the graduated income tax was created. Of course one could move to a state where poor people pay a higher % of their income than rich due to its reliance on sales taxes
What’s pathetic about a 1.5% tax on assets of $1 billion or 1% on $50 million? I should be so lucky to have that problem. Poor baby Steve Forbes, whose net worth was estimated at well over $400 million.

What are you talking about? They still are. I thought I was blunt. Uhh nope. I have nothing but good things to about the people around here. I just bought Yanmar 359c tractor and some implements from Tractor Bobs. I was talking to the owner, what a hoot. He retired and decided to worked part time at the place and then bought it now he is no longer retired sort of. And his name is not Bob. Good people. Gona see about partnering up on a Tractor Bobs up this way. I have been slowly adding pies to my business portfolio here and I have to say its been great. The bullshit way less than I have had to deal with back in California.

The point is that California's tax base is dwindling because of uber-high taxation.

The smart things that lawmakers should have done to keep people in the state are:
1) reduce wasteful spending and
2) lower taxes.

The stupidest things they could have done is continue with reckless spending, and raise high taxes EVEN HIGHER, causing even more people to flee the state. Which as it turns out is exactly what the morons in Sacramento plan to do.

The message is pathetic. That message that if a person becomes successful an acquires wealth, the State will take it by force. California's lawmakers cannot be held accountable for the idiotic decisions they make. They do it with impunity, and they do it often.

"The essential notion of a capitalist society is voluntary cooperation and voluntary exchange. The essential notion of a socialist society is fundamentally force." - Milton Friedman

"It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." - Thomas Sowell

Jealous, apparently.

Taxes in California and the US are lower than in similar societies, and services are less here as well. We all complain about reckless spending, but of course we often mean different things.

That’s idiotic. Do you voluntarily cooperate in paying taxes? Al Capone didn’t volunteer to pay his taxes — remember how worked out.
"It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." - Thomas Sowell
Sowell was obviously speaking of Trump in many ways. But I elect officials every 2-4 years and sometimes in between. They pay a price for being wrong.

The idea that wealth is equal to productivity is so wrong it's not even in the same state.

Heaven forbid people be allowed to keep their hard-earned money.

Yes the poor and the rich have the same right to sleep under bridges. The jerk in the picture wouldn’t have his hard earned money we it not for the society we all support that makes it possible. Pay your taxes. That and death are certain, or hadn’t you heard?
