It is now a pandemic of the unvaccinated?

It seems that the present pandemic is mostly those who are unvaccinated, something like over 99%. There are a few who have been vaccinated, but mostly those with the J+J vaccine, which is less effective against the Delta variant or they get less sick than those who are unvaccinated. So is the present pandemic a "pandemic of the unvaccinated" as some are saying?

Hi, Independentusa!

That is certainly a fair approximation. We would do well to also remember that pandemic, with respect to the Delta mutation of the Covid-19 virus, includes the inhabited world. There are entire areas of the world such as Africa in which access to the various vaccines is best described as minimal.

Well, I'd say it's still a pandemic in the sense that it's a virus that's widespread. However it's a pandemic of differing outcomes. There are people (unvaccinated) who are going to suffer far worse outcomes than others (vaccinated).

The whole deal was that the virus was novel. I.e., no one's immune system had ever seen or experienced that type of infection. So, the virus was at a distinct advantage and could explode and replicate exponentially throughout the body, causing major damage, while the immune struggled to mount a response.

Now that we're vaccinated, the virus is non-novel. The immune system already saw the type of infection via the vaccine, and has built a quick-defense memory. It doesn't mean that you can't or won't catch COVID, but that the virus will have a much lesser advantage.

The people who choose to go unvaccinated are opting for the scenario where the virus does far greater damage to their body, when they eventually catch the disease.
 
Gonna have a lot of candidates for the Darwin Awards this year.

I predict blue states will recommend all wear masks again everywhere, and Biden will attempt to make a national unconstitutional mandate requiring it as well.

Why not just require proof of vaccination to remain out of jail? After all, those no longer allowed to work or travel are bound to break the law. ;)

And if that happened, less people will die. President Biden has never said he would do a national mask mandate, he said federal mask mandate. It is in place and people must mask in Federal buildings and interstate transportation (plus other federally controlled areas).

What's your problem with masks, have you looked at where cases are coming from?

You do what you have to do, but as a fully vaccinated person, I am not wearing a mask.
And no one can make me.

It has always been a pandemic of the unvaccinated, many of them (once) wearing masks to let us know who they are.

No one can make you do anything. Can police make you wear your seatbelt? Can the govt force you to pay taxes?

Your actions have consequences. Hopefully the odds remain in your favor, but that's not a guarantee.

I have a relative, wife's side of the family, who won't get vaccinated, and he's not stupid (well...not normally) and he's not a conservative, and his wife and the rest of us just can't figure it out. He's masking up, if nothing else, and I asked my wife, "So, uh, what's this guy's plan, exactly? Is he just going to wear a mask for the rest of his life?"

I told my wife, "He belongs to an online CT forum. Bank on it. And if he ever utters the word 'skeptic,' then that settles it."
 
My inclination is to follow trix and refuse to mask up, saying “**** them“ for those not getting the vaccination.
But, would that not also adversely expose children 10 and younger who have no access to the vaccine?

First, a factual inaccuracy: there is no reason to suggest that the J & J vaccine is not less effective against the Delta variant. In fact, it was the only one tested in areas where the Delta variant appeared even before it was authorized. And it's extremely effective in avoiding transmission even by those who got infected after receiving the shot.

I wouldn't call it "the pandemic of the unvaccinated". I would call it "the pandemic of the anti-vaxers". They are the ones who have been willfully perpetuating the pandemic. Let's not confuse those creeps with innocent children who don't have the age to get the shot, or with people with allergies, or with people who are unable to develop antibodies.

Wearing a mask is not enough. They should also stay away from others who are not vaccinated and from children under 12.

The other danger these people pose is that they could lend a hand in developing a Covid mutation that is resistant to vaccines. And if they keep this long enough, that mutation WILL appear sooner or later.

LA county is requiring masks gain. No one is happy about it.
