A thread was posted by by donsutherland1 , about an article pretending that the number of palestinians killed by Israeli army in Gaza on Dec. 27 stood at about 500, with about 125 of them civilians.

Reading the article we found the following:

Israeli troops approach Gaza population centers
By IBRAHIM BARZAK and STEVE WEIZMAN – 5 days ago

and the numbers mentioned previousley.

But looking for the article in AP site give nothing. Instead I found the following article:

Jan 8, 5:36 PM EST
UN: 257 Palestinian children killed in Gaza
By IBRAHIM BARZAK and KARIN LAUB
Associated Press Writer

Well... info are contradictories.

And looking into the UN web site we find:
PRESS CONFERENCE BY UNDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL FOR HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS, DIRECTOR OF GAZA OPERATIONS FOR UN RELIEF AND WORKS AGENCY FOR PALESTINE REFUGEES

Here we find what was written in Ap web site:
Turning to broader issues in the humanitarian efforts in Gaza, he said the local Ministry of Health was reporting a total of 758 fatalities since the start of hostilities. About 34 per cent, or 257, of those killed were children and 7.5 per cent, or 56, were women. There was a total of 3,100 injured people, of whom 1,080 were children and 452 women.

Conclusion:
What was posted by donsutherland1 is a Israeli LIE.

What do you think?

As I responded to your post in the thread in question and explained that AP and Google have a partnership, the issue has already been addressed. The post can be found at: http://www.debatepolitics.com/middl...za-operation-fatalities-9.html#post1057880605

First, the Associated Press story was disseminated through Google News at: The Associated Press: Israeli troops approach Gaza population centers

Second, Google and AP have a partnership in which Google pays AP to disseminate some of AP's content via Google News. An piece that mentions the partnership can be found at in the American Journalism Review at To Partner or not to Partner?  | American Journalism Review

In sum, the AP story is not an "Israeli lie."

I'm not surprised.

Question: What is worse?
  1. Israeli government lying about what is going on in Gaza.
  2. The Issy's (pro-nounced Izzy) pro-Israeli-apologists, that actively try to justify (and turn) the lies into truth.
I thought I seen most irrational, illogical, irresponsible opinion's from the Bushies and the lengths they go to argue (and excuse) the most obvious atrocities, but I think the Issy's have surpassed them. And they've done it with this very notion that nothing Israel does, is Israel's fault. And the article you referenced (and the reason it was posted) is how that manifests.

They act like Israel has no choice to bomb Palestine. They act like Israel did not DECIDE to bomb Palestine. They act like walking away from a fight is not an option on the table. Which makes me wonder if they've ever been in a situation with their significant other where they didn't want to argue, so they walked away from the fight. Talked it over when they had cooler heads.

Of coarse Israel has a choice not to bomb. Everyone makes their own choices in life. To say they're not responsible for the taking of the innocent lives of Palestinian children, is irresponsible hypocrisy. They say that because of these rockets that have killed only 15 people in 8 years is justification to kill 1500 people in 8 days.

So severe is this irresponsibility, that IDF soldiers could put out a YouTube of them carving the head off a duck-taped Hamas official wearing an orange jumpsuit with a butter knife and they'll jump through hoops to argue that was necessary to preserve Israeli sovereignty and security.

The more I research the situation in the ME, the more signs point to Israel has the cause of all these problems. And it's sad, because there is no threat to Israel's existance. No one on the planet is going to take them out. Not with their military capabilities and not with them being under the US nuclear umbrella.

Yet they use this excuse over and over and over to justify the most heinous atrocities on the planet since the Holocoust. Which brings us back to the point of this thread and the lies the Issy's will tell.

Of coarse its a lie!

How do you explain the contradiction?

Your article:
More than 500 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 100 civilians, according to United Nations figures.

AP article:
As many as 257 children have been killed and 1,080 wounded - about a third of the total casualties since Dec. 27, according to U.N. figures released Thursday.
The last time I looked, children were considered civilians. Your article said the UN said only 100 were killed. The AP said the UN said 257 were killed. That's 157 more than your article. So, your article lied.

Why do you think it didn't?

Have you checked the dates of the two AP articles? The one I cited was from January 6 (5 days ago). The one Alex33 mentioned was published on January 8. New information and additional casualties from fighting over the two days between the pieces probably explains the differences.

Alright, I see your point.

Now why did you kill 157 children in 2 days?

Billo, one more time slowly

local Ministry of Health = H. A. M. A. S. - was reporting

the third time very slow

children

males under 18

males under 18

in vilolation of all humanand moral laws

are forced by H A M A S to be combatans

even more slow; the corpses of the children killed by you are documnted here:

YouTube - Hamas Indoctrinating Toddlers
YouTube - Children of Hamas
YouTube - Hamas Mickey Mouse Teaches Terror to Kids
YouTube - Palestinian child becomes Jihad fighter in Hamas clip
YouTube - Palestinian child becomes a martyr in PA clip
YouTube - 11-year-old Palestinians: Martyrdom better than this world
YouTube - Palestinian children presented as warriors in Hamas clip
YouTube - Palestinian children taught to aspire to martyrdom
YouTube - For the TV camera, Palestinian Mother Sends Son to be Killed

Good point.

But in fact, they are liars. Because as I had posted above the UN web site confirms the number of 257 Palestinian children killed (pay attention please, 257 CHILDREN) and 56 women (WOMEN). So the number is not 125 civilians (CIVILIANS).

"Israel’s lie machine is working flat out"

That there is no verification of these numbers.

(pay attention please, 257 CHILDREN)

pay attention please to the CHILDREN - males under 18 - murdered by their own parents long before Isreal taking its defensive action against actions of their parents, child abusers and not even cannibals, but the scum , the evil of the earth:

That's right. That showes how media are manipulated By Israel.
Anyways, I notified AP about the article.

If AP is in error, that is not the fault of donsutherland1. He cited a legitimate news source.

You owe him a public apology. So does Billo.

One last point. With the amount of negative publicity about Israel in the press, you sound like an idiot claiming that Israel manipulates the media.

Maybe it should allow independent sources inside Gaza to verify all claims?

Either Israel is purposely letting Hamas win the propaganda war for no apparent reason, or is trying to be really inconspicuous with what is really going on in Gaza.

I don't apologize when I have nothing to apologize for.

But I did acknowledge I saw his point.

But I guess you missed that.

Here's another way of looking at this...

If you are going to say that the "collective punishment" Israel is doing in Gaza is 100% the fault of Hamas because they'e the ones who fired the rockets, then it's perfectly okay to hold someone responsible for the articles they use to prove their point.

That's an extreme and it's silly.

But I can't count all the times you have made insinuations about my character because you didn't like the websites I was using.

The door swings both ways in my world.

Do the math!

Is it not Israel that is restricting foreign journalists' access to Gaza? Is it not Israel that put up an informational website on the conflict and feeds the restricted journalists their own assessments? If that's not manipulating the media I don't know what is.

Billo_Really,

The article I posted was a legitimate Associated Press (AP) piece. Google has a partnership with AP. The AP story I posted was published in numerous newspapers under the AP byline. The confusion seems to have arisen because I posted an AP piece written on 1/6 while the member expressing his concern cited a 1/8 article that contained different figures. As noted previously, additional combat, more details, etc., over the two days were probably behind the differing numbers.

Given the AP-Google partnership and publication of the same AP piece in multiple newspapers under the AP byline, I have little reason to believe that the 1/6 article published by Google was not legitimate. Furthermore, it should be noted that I posted the information contained in the 1/6 AP article on 1/6. I didn't selectively post using an outdated article. The article was current at the time I posted its major details.

That showes how media are manipulated By Israel.
.

Another Jewish conspiracy advocate, what else is new?

Poor we, we should rather have media controlled by HAMAS - see the media controlled by HAMAS posted on this tread. And we sghould trust it...

Precisely.

The OP author totally ignores the time differential between 1/6 and 1/8. Not only that, but he infers ("Israel lies") that Israel manipulated the numbers even though both articles stipulate that the numbers were supplied by the UN.

Talk about sleazy.

Actually he says "Israeli lie". He does not extend his claim to Israel as a country, but limits it to Don.

Regardless, this is all a result of a misinterpretation of the article and the AP's lack of clarity. The original article said there were 500 killed with more than 100 being civilians. This ambiguous statement was taken by Don to mean the Israel invasion was extremely effective in its extermination of Hamas while limiting civilian casualties.

I believe it was cleared up early in the thread as new figures and sources became available. While Don jumped to a premature conclusion when given such extraordinary figures, I don't think it should be labeled as a lie.

Don is not Israeli. Don is not Jewish either. The OP is nothing more than an erroneous and disingenuous attempt to slander.
