Israel Attacks Iran With The Notion That The US Is Going To Jump In And Save Them

Should The USA back Israel militarily in this?

  • Absolutely

  • 1 - Absolutely

  • 2 - No, Israel made their bed, let them lay in it.

  • 3 - I don't know/don't care either way

Is Israel wrong? Not on their intelligence.
What makes you think Netanyahu is accurately telling the world what Israeli intelligence assesses? Netanyahu has been shrilly warning about imminent Iranian nuclear weapons for decades. Bibi is a liar and a scoundrel.
Have you noticed how little critique there is from the Arab world? They too are silently happy that Israel is doing this.
Did you consult Google before you wrote this? Probably not.

21 Arab, Muslim nations condemn Israeli strikes on Iran, urge de-escalation

The resistance to this war is going to be equal to the resistance and political power of the Left in general. In other words, things are not looking great. Israel has coopted most Democrats and all virtually every Republican.
Actually, there are some very bitter feelings on the right regarding Trump's possible desire to engage in the kind of nation-building he swore he would not engage in.

Tucker Carlson Berates Ted Cruz Over Bellicose Stance on Iran
In an interview that highlighted a rift on the far right over the role of the United States in confronting Iran, the host confronted the senator over his hawkish stance, suggesting he was ill-informed.
And this isn't an isolated incident. Many rightwing influencers are speaking out against this.

Hi sKiTzo,

I agree with

Their is only one country that has better intelligence on Iran than Israel, and that is Iran itself. And of course Iran should never get a nuclear weapon.

Is Israel wrong? Not on their intelligence. Their actions? Hell yeah! If you had been told by all your neighbours for 75+ years that you and your extended family should not exists, I think you would either leave, or bite back. I do not blame them, but they are very wrong, very often. Especially in light of what happened to them During WWII. And if in the process they manage to overthrow the ruling party in Iran, well, than that is only good for the rest of the world.

Have you noticed how little critique there is from the Arab world? They too are silently happy that Israel is doing this.

Now whether or not the US is going to help Israel is a completely different story. The US demanded a deal within 60 days. After 61 days Israel attacked. That does not look like coincidence. So I think their was some level of communication and awareness in the US of what was going to happen. Maybe not the full extend. So far Israel seems to be quite successful in achieving their goals, or so it appears. If they are indeed successful and the US can provide the icing on the cake by taking out a few bunkers (I think this is what is being referred to now...), than it would probably wise to do so.

I guess that depends on how we assess that, because they're either lying (Iran being 2 weeks away from a bomb for almost 30 years) or they've gotten it wrong. That said, they've done a great job at infiltrating Iran's programs, but Netanyahu also testified before Congress that Iraq was definitely working on nuclear weapons, which was disproved after the second Gulf War. I don't doubt this is a very similar scenario.

There’s nothing preventing Iran from supplying their ‘proxy’ terror groups with such a weapon.
Same with North Korea and Russia. We shouldn't invade them, either.

Which amounts to the same as launching one themselves. If they are intent on doing this, they could have provided Hezbollah with radioactive materials for dirty bombs if so inclined, but they haven't.

NOBODY should have nukes. But for any country to make it so another country can't have them is also not right. Why would Iran be irresponsible in this way? If you have nukes and you nuke, you're going to get nuked 10 times harder by the rest of the world. I think Iran knows that. For other countries to say you can't have them is absurd, especially the USA, who is the only country irresponsible enough to have used them!
Iran with a nuke is like a two year old with a loaded gun.

Hmm… is that why the US military attacked the Houthis instead of Iran for firing missiles and drones at ships?
Ah, but conventional weapons are a different matter compared to using the nuclear variety, since the latter are more of a deterrent than an offensive weapon. Every nuclear power knows that if they use this kind of weapon, the likelihood of their nation being destroyed is a serious risk.

Oh, sure, it would have been way more "responsible" for us to have invaded the Japanese home islands with a possible cost of a million combined casualties...probably more.

My dad fought in WWII. He said that if word had gotten out that we had a weapon that would have ended the war and chose not to use it, Truman wouldn't have been impeached, he'd have been lynched.

Or maybe we should, because they hate us too and can launch missiles at us in less than 2 weeks.
:)
We know they have nukes. For Iran, all we have is the word of Bibi Netanyahu, an inveterate liar. After all, in 2002 he "guaranteed" Iraq was "frantically" working on a nuke.

They weren't.

Do we? I mean, I don't know. Our intel says we do, but maybe we shouldn't believe them.

I think a majority of Americans favor American airstrikes to assist Israel in its goal. Very few of us, including me, support boots on the ground without a very good reason.

I'm in favor of our dropping whatever ordinance is necessary, short of a nuke, to destroy the Fordo facility.

I couldn't agree more. Get it done, and then leave the rest behind.
Sure. Just unilaterally bomb a nation that has not attacked us, and with which we are not at war. Just bomb them proactively.

That worked out the last time we did it, against Saddam Hussein, right?

How would Iran react, do you suppose? Attack U.S. assets, killing U.S. personnel? Then what do we do then? Where does it end? What's the end game?

Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Precisely my position.

Hi jpn and ElChupacabra

Never in a million years I will claim that Netanyahu is accurately telling the world what is going on. What I did say is that they have good intelligence. I am sure they say what is convenient for them, regardless of whether it is true or not. I am also sure they know a lot more than they say they know.

That's actually correct. The Right-Wing are doing MORE to oppose this war than Democrats. And that's how they get to brand themselves as anti-war successfully, while being ravenous bloodthirsty psychopaths.

Here's the rub: The Right-Wing wants the military to focus on domestic left-wing activists, not Iran.

Great but nation building isn't what Trump's goal is. Dismantling Iran's nuclear weaponry capability is.

As a pacifist I say that the US did the responsible thing by using the A-bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The alternative would have been a full scale land invasion.

Not really. Japan was completely decimated at that point, there would have been no need for an A bomb or a land invasion at all. Japan could have been isolated on their island and they would have been no threat at all.

"The responsible thing" LMAO, yeah buddy using nukes is definitely "responsible".
