If you can't see the difference then I feel sorry for you....

Come on NP. You've dodged the question for the past 4 pages. It almost feels like you're backed into a wall and you know it.

Is it a sign of a respect when you use the American flag as a marketing tool?

I'm not talking about patches and lapel pins. I'm talking about people putting flags on a t-shirt and using that flag to make a quick buck. Or people putting our flag on towels just so you can dry your *** with it. Even when the contradiction is clear to everybody you're still claiming it's not a contradiction. I mean obviously the people who oppose the burning of our flag because it is a symbol of what America is would be completely opposed to it being used to market hats, shirts, bandannas and caps because it's symbolism is destroyed. It's not a representative of our country anymore. It becomes a tool. A logo. A gimmick used to lure people into buying stuff. Is this what you believe all the men who died defending our flag died for? So that our flag could be used as a way to get people to buy ****? Thats kind of sad isn't it. Come on now. Answer the question. Yes or No.

I recall an old co-worker of mine who served in Vietnam relating a story of how his Ranger instructors made his unit go all day without taking a piss. At the end of the day they were lead to a large hole with an American flag laying at the bottom and were told to piss on the flag.

They looked at each other confused, like it was a trick. They hurt from not relieving themselves all day but didn't want to get dropped for ******* on the flag.

Noticing their hesitation the instructors told them that the flag was a symbol, nothing more. True patriotism was in your hart, and nothing that could ever be don to any flag could touch your patriotism.

They promptly pissed on the flag.

I think the level of marketing the flag has gotten totally disrespectful. I don't think it is appropriate to put the flag in t-shirts or boxers. A flag should be used as that.. a flag. You can have patriotic clothing in the red, white and blue without using the icon of the flag to promote it.

I would have had him written up under Article 134 of the UCMJ and court martialed him and then pissed on his shoes. That is the most irreverent and ridiculous story, I think I have ever heard. No one in the military will ever train someone that the flag is "just a symbol". You are REQUIRED to stop and salute, during colors on a military base if you are in uniform. You are taught utmost respect to our nations flag. I would question the validity of his story. I know several Rangers, and none of them would do that, or believe it.

The Ranger Creed
Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move farther, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.

Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be. One-hundred-percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.

RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!

Nope I don't believe so.............If I had my way the flag would not be used for those promotions but I don't put the ones you mentioned in the same league with burning or peeing on the flag.............Not even close.......sorry
Girl wears a flag panty while she's on her monthly cycle. What's the difference?

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag.
Zell Miller

My men, yonder are the Hessians.
They were brought for seven pounds and ten pence a man.
Are you worth more? Prove it.
Tonight, the American flag floats from yonder hill or Molly Stark sleeps a widow!
— General John Stark, at the Battle of Bennington, Vermont in August 1777.

Our flag is our national ensign, pure and simple, behold it!
Listen to it! Every star has a tongue, every stripe is articulate.
— Robert C. Winthrop (1809-1894), Senator from Massachusetts

I can understand T-Shirts and jackets commemorating a special day of patriotism, and the like - however, to use Old Glory for product advertising purposes no - and btw, don't ever attempt to burn the American Flag in my presence (unless it is being retired), or we will tangle, but that's me.

Sorry soldier...you're too easy. Using the flag on a t-shirt is using it as a commercial gimmick.

But it's ok to use the flag to make a "pro-american" political point?

If you mean showing it at support the troops rallys sure it is ok..........That should not even be a political issue since everyone should support the troops, sadly a lot of prople on the left do not support them for political reasons........

You've yet to answer my question. Is it ok to use the American flag as a commercial gimmick?

I have answered it a dozen time............Now concentrate like a laser beam........It is not a yes or no answer..........It depends on the situation....

I have answered it a dozen time.

No you haven't.

It is not a yes or no answer

It is actually.

..........It depends on the situation...

No it doesn't. I'll again cite the Flag Code.

United States Flag Code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WAIS Document Retrieval

The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed, or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations. (Note that on Army uniforms, where the flag is put on the sleeve of the uniform, the flag patch is displayed with the stars facing forward, in the direction the wearer is facing. This is done to give the impression of the flag flowing in the wind while being carried forward across the battlefield. This is known as the "Reverse Field Flag".) Flag lapel pins may also be worn.

I am against desecration of the flag when it comes to peeing on it or burning it...........

So I take it you don't find it disrespectful when it is used as a commercial gimmick? To get people to buy stuff? I guess thats what all those men and women you mentioned died for.

I don't know how you can make the comparison of peeing on or burning a flag but coming from you that is not surprising...........

I'm getting sick of asking you this question. Are you or are you not opposed to the flag being used as a commercial gimmick? Nothing to do with peeing on it. I'm asking if you support the flag being used as a lure to get people to purchase things. Your refusal to answer this very simple question with either of the required answers shows how far into the wall you are.

Come on, you know he's not going to answer, you're just wasting your time asking over and over.
