The scenario:
Where: USA
When: today 5/12/2014
I'm a black guy that owns a contracting Company. Its smaller, about 20 employees.
Lets call it Agent J's Home Improvements and Landscaping.
I dont hire any white people, I think they arent trust worthy simply because they are white so I deny everyone that applies. For me White = dishonest.
Am I a racist, is this racism?
For reference here the definition of racism:
Racism:
rac·ist noun or adjective1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race2: racial prejudice or discrimination

Great thread topic and scenario for this topic by the way.
To answer your first question, based solely on the scenario you described, as requested, yes.
To the second question, yes. Racism knows no color, or race, or ethnic boundaries. Racism is racism, regardless of from where it originates.

Yes, I would say you're a racist with what you've described. I don't know if it fits the dictionary's definition, but it fits mine.

I think it's racism but some define racism in such a way that the definition itself precludes anyone who isn't white.

1.)You sounds more like you're prejudices than a racist.
2.)Who does the landscaping for your company, illegal aliens from Mexico ?
3.)Or are you a high end contractor and only use Japanese landscapers ?
4.)Japanese have a well earned reputation as being the best landscapers in the trade.
5.)Because Ed Asner (Lib) only uses Japanese landscapers at his home in Santa Barbara, is he a racist, prejudice or does he just wants the best looking garden on the block ?
and those people would be mistaken since they have no factual support to define it that way. all the facts and definitions prove them wrong.
It is in fact racism.
1.)By the very definition you provided (and I've seen other similar definitions) it is racial dscrimination and prejudice so it is racism.
2.)Besides, if using the term "black cloud" and Hallmark cards that mention black holes are deemed racist, your example clearly is.
Racism is racism, regardless of who is giving and who is receiving.
1.) correct I agree and I would hope you seen similar since i gave 9 others
2.) well i dont know what you are talking about here but your examples dont fit any definition of racism that I know. But im guessing you are NOT saying they do only that some idiots out there have said those stupid things.
1.)Well "black cloud" was a phrase used by Rick Perry, I believe, and it was said that was a racist remark.
2.) The Hallmark card thing is incredibly funny. It was one of those annoying talking cards and it was for graduation. The characters were speaking of how this graduate was going to kick the whole universe's ass (because he/she is just that gifted). They mention a number of term related to astronomy including "black holes". Well the NAACP was outraged because they believed the card was actually saying black "ho's" and Hallmark couldn't pull the card fast enough. One of those cards is probably a collectors item now.
Who voted no? I can't see the votes since I already voted.
buck ewer
but why cant you see the votes? I can always see the votes, are you on a phone or tab or somethign that is different from PC?
The numbers have a hyperlink.
1.)I just never put my cursor over the numbers. Learn something new every day.
2.)Thanks.
3.) I thought it might have been eco. He and I went round and round about this a week or so ago. It was hilarious at first but then became tiresome with the "I'm right no matter what you say, demonstrate or provide as factual proof." On many other topics, I like the guy. He has a pretty good sense of humor. But on this subject... Well...
