I’ve seen a bunch of posts on forums such as Reddit stating that the economy is forced to close to a standstill because of trumps terrible handling of the disease when it first started infecting Americans. These posts cite that during the Obama administration diseases like Ebola and H1N1 did not spread like wildfire and cause the economy to close.

Is there validity to this, or would this shutdown be happening regardless? It seems that those diseases, especially Ebola, spread far less easily thus making the comparison invalid.

shrug...

The answer to your question depends upon a person's point of view and agenda. The facts don't matter.

This is all Trump's fault. He's a disgusting piece of garbage and politicized the virus while America burned.

Firstly, welcome aboard. Secondly: Trump failed at every opportunity to do the right thing. Yes, this is a virulent pathogen. But, that has been anticipated and planned for over a period of decades. Off-the-shelf plans existed - he followed none of it. Experts inside and outside of the government gave warnings and recommendations, he heeded none of them, and even fired some for saying so.

We will see more such pathogens in the future. Lots of lessons should be learned from this, the most important being - don't hire an incompetent to run a government.

Our lack of testing in the early part of the pandemic allowed it to spread to 50 States before we knew it was even here. That caused us to have no other alternative but shut down or have millions of deaths

Trump pissed away the month of February so some of that blood is on his hands.
