I was in Portland, OR., a couple of weeks ago. It about broke my heart to watch my 15 year old granddaughter's entire traveling club team forced to wear masks while playing in an all-day tournament, game after game. They were playing against some other teams where their club said no mask required. Moral of the story: Like you said, what is the ****ing point? Almost all of these girls were already vaccinated and still got Omicron. At least my granddaughter did. So why the mask after the fact?

It's mind numbingly stupid.

You have to wear a mask to get into a venue but the second you are in your seat, mask comes off. Purpose defeated.

One team plays in masks against another team who doesn't. Purpose defeated.

Walk into a crowded store that requires masks and twenty minutes later stop for lunch at a crowded cafe which doesn't. Purpose defeated.


The theory may well have been sound and may well have been effective early on but people have reached their tolerance threshold and are no longer willing to wear those uncomfortable ****ing things anymore. Especially those who have been vaccinated. In practice, it's just not working anymore.

If they refuse they are put outside, their parents are called to pick them up, and if the parents refuse or cannot find a way to get their child home at that time, school officials threaten to call CPS, child protective services. Um, what is this country coming to?

But we'll never know just how much worse it would have been if we let the virus spread in 2020 without wearing masks and shutting down businesses and schools.
I'm pretty sure we would have had a lot o mobile morgues in parking lots housing bodies waiting for cremation or burial.
We would have been more like India and Brazil with the virus spreading like wildfire.

Now the CDC and Fauci have to reach agreement on how to deliver THE SCIENCE to the country so that all restrictions can be removed and the Administration can take credit for "CONTROLLING" Covid just like Biden promised in early 2021.
Otherwise, they might have to admit the masking, shutdowns, testing locations, and vaccine mandates did not really matter after all.
Biden had the vaccines all through 2021 and still 500,000 Americans died and no one has accused Biden of malfeasance the way they accused Trump of killing 400,000 people because he did not tell Americans to wear masks.

What a difference a weaker strain of Covid makes.
As the number of cases go down, along with hospitalizations and deaths, the more courage Americans have to say ENOUGH!!.
It's like Clint Eastwood in his poncho on the dusty street shooting all those bad guys and never missing. Was he worried about some guy behind him ready to shoot him in the back? The CDC and Fauci are praying there are no virulent strains around the corner waiting to kill more Americans.

Did you actually think you were right?
If the number of deaths continue to swing wildly from day to day, then how can anyone predict what "normal" will be as Covid becomes an endemic disease?
And who knows if the number of deaths per day will go up when masking policies are abandoned?

But its severity is greatly diminished with weaker strains, vaccines and natural immunity.

When you remove all barriers to the spread (in other words, living as if we were in pre-pandemic), the virus will have full and unfettered access to the population, which will increase the death toll.
