Snow Job: When 'Conservative Journalism' Is Just Purposeful Propaganda | Media Matters for America
Incensed by a New York Post "exclusive" last winter about "arrogant" union sanitation workers who purposefully failed to plow local streets in the aftermath of a crippling blizzard in order to protest department budget cuts, some members of the GOP Noise Machine, having whipped themselves into a union-hating frenzy, suggested the worker were actually guilty of criminal misconduct.
The Post's plow story, which was thoroughly debunked by a just-completed city investigation, and which the right-wing media now remain universally silent about, presents us with a depressing case study of how so-called "conservative journalism" often works today. (And especially how Rupert Murdoch-bankrolled journalism works.)
No Evidence of Work Slowdown During 2010 Snow - Document - NYTimes.com
An investigation into conservative charges that there was some sort of slowdown by unionized public workers in New York city last winter has shown no evidence of such a thing. As many will remember right here on this board, bashing unionized workers in NY City became a right wing cause celebre last winter and many piled on. Now, after an investigation of the charges, they have been proven to have no foundation.
The line forms right here for those on the right who bashed hard working unionized workers based on lies and extremist ideology.
:lamo Seriously? Really? :lamo
Those of us who live here no better, and it was a bi-partisan outrage not a "conservative media" one.
so bloombergs own investigation team investigated his own sanitation dept and found no slowdown.
Yet, the next storm which was just as big, no problems, Funny how that works...
Are you refuting what the City's Department of Investigation has determined?
On December 30, the New York Post reported that several sanitation workers confessed that cleanup was intentionally slowed down to protest the aforementioned budget cuts.[21] On January 3, 2011, WCBS-TV reported that prosecutors had obtained a video of two sanitation trucks driving down 155th Street in the Whitestone section of Queens after the blizzard with their plows raised so as not to remove the snow. Allegations were also made that sanitation workers slept on the job, hung out at a doughnut shop for 11 straight hours while on the job, and drank beer for six or seven hours while on the job. Claims were also made that supervisors encouraged such work stoppages.[22] However, a month later, the New York Times reported that the allegations of a slowdown remained unsubstantiated and that Councilman Daniel Halloran, who had originally reported the confessions, had not named his sources.[23]
What you saw on the news was the likely isolated instances, the Dept. of Investigation reported. They said there was no overall slowdown, however. In the quote you took from Wikipedia, it said the slowdown was unsubstantiated.yes, in fact, I am calling them a bunch of ****ing liars.rof

There was video on the local news of much of this. I live here, I saw it.

I live in Oregon, but if I live in South America I could read the same report from the city's investigation arm. FWIW, I was born and raised 35 miles north of the city on the Hudson river, so I know how tough and frustrating it can be with a huge snowfall in the area.Where are you from....again??? :ssst:
Read the report at the OP.
Hmmm... living in the area, I seem to remember the slowdown. I think it was fairly widespread, too. NYC was a disaster for a few days,
I did.
The New York City Department of Investigation found no evidence of a work slowdown by sanitation workers during the blizzard in December 2010.
Like I said. The city investigated itself, and found no problems. Big surprise.

So despite the mountain of evidence they provide, you prefer to use innuendo to make them guilty of a cover-up?

Right wing whine #28 - "do not confuse me with facts as they they put serious wrinkles in my belief system".
The hate for unions on the part of the radical right is so thick and so obsessive that it overrides reality. This is a perfect example.
