"We are distressed by what we regard as a blatant abuse of discretion by the trial court. We are determined to see that these cases are heard on the merits."

Here come the appeals. It will be a miracle if the parents see any money.

**** this guy. I'm glad he has to, at the very least, pay damages.

What a piece of shit. Glad he is going to suffer from his disgusting acts.

This is not based on any actual finding that what he said amounted to defamation, but rather is a default judgment resulting from supposed violation of discovery orders.

We'll see how that turns out. It's not uncommon for litigants to try to turn a $100,000 lawsuit into millions of dollars worth of legal expenses for the other party, often through abuse of the liberal discovery processes in the US. And judges have a habit of allowing that to happen. It's one of the biggest problems with the US legal system.

dude he spread around lies that the families were faking their children's death and caused them innumerable damages as a result.

And there are actual, sentient adults who still believe Sandy Hook was a hoax, because that ignorant twat told them. He deserves all he gets, frankly.

Seems you are saying none of this is real then. Is that the case?

Typical RWNJ reasoning. They with hold documents from the court and then whine about wanting the case decided on the merits.

Good, that guy is human garbage.
Jones falsely claimed that the December 2012 shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, was a "giant hoax" carried out by crisis actors on behalf of people who oppose the Second Amendment.
The shooter killed 26 people at the school -- 20 of whom were young children -- before killing himself.

There aren't enough Infowars Tactical Wipes in the world to clean up after a turd as vile as Jones.

So much left-wing hatred gathered in one place can never come to any good.

Good. Stupidity like that deserves consequences.

Oh it's well beyond stupidity. I can only think of one word that describes accusing parents who lost their children of being "crisis actors" in some grand government plot to create reasons to steal freedoms.

"Evil". Doing that to the parents is evil.

Wow, I literally just wrote the words, left-wing hatred, and a Genie appeared.

since he defaulted, I think it’s a matter of summary judgement.

Yes, I'm aware of that. That doesn't change the fact of what I said.

Seems like you should learn to read. I didn't say anything even remotely like that.

No, it's a matter of default judgment. Summary judgment is a judgment on the merits when the undisputed facts are sufficient to render a decision as a matter of law (i.e., there's not need to get a jury to decide what the actual facts are).

there were merits and he lost on them. If there is a case where libel or slander is the claim then you have to show damages...can you imagine the emotional distress of having constant barrage of protesters and threats against your family over a lie? He admitted he made it up...meaning he KNEW he was lying...

Ah, you must be a Alex Jones fan. Which of the manly products that he sells have you bought?

I don't follow right-wing extremists, nor hate-filled alt-left crybabies.

Deriving pleasure over a POS being held accountable for exploiting the deaths of children and causing pain and misery for their parents is great.
