CHICAGO (AP) — The nation's most influential pediatrician's group has endorsed gay marriage, saying a stable relationship between parents regardless of sexual orientation contributes to a child's health and well-being.
The American Academy of Pediatrics' new policy, published online Thursday, cites research showing that the parents' sexual orientation has no effect on a child's development. Kids fare just as well in gay or straight families when they are nurturing and financially and emotionally stable, the academy says.

This is not surprising. The information that confirms what they say in the second paragraph has been widely available for several years... much of which I have posted at DP. Most major Medical and Psychological organizations accept that SSM has zero effect on children raised in this kind of environment.

There's gonna come a point where there will be no more debate about SSM. Just the rantings of the delusional while the pro-side sits on the edge shaking their heads.

Sounds like more of an issue with gay adoption than SSM - which I also support.

The biggest beneficiaries of SSM are children being raised by gay parents.

I don't necessarily consider the two related directly. Obviously they're related indirectly at the least, but I don't think they have real correlations.

Put simply, evidence shows that children raised in broken homes fair far worse than children raised in stable, two parent homes. Marriage is the best means of providing stable, two parent homes. I'm not sure how that isn't related directly.

I'm glad to see them come out of the closet and post their views. ;)

It's about time.

You really wanna tug at that string?

You really wanna tug at that string?

Um...what string? All I hear from anti SSM people is how marriage is so valuable to society because it provides stable homes for raising children. For some reason they get uppity when that logic is applied to the children being raised by gay parents.

Those people would be idiots.

Know what makes good parents? Couples that have to literally jump through endless hoops and fight an angry populace for the sole purpose of showering love upon a kid who desperately needs it.

Know what doesn't? Any dumbass who thinks being a parent takes nothing more than a penis and a vagina.

True enough.

Since I've never read even the most militant anti-gay rights group declaring children with a gay parent(s) get sick more often than with a hetero parent(s), the opinion of pediatricians is just another opinion by still another special interests group.

I think I said something just like this recently. Pretty accurate.

They weren't just talking about whether children get sick or not. They were discussing the overall health of the child.

Pediatricians are not psychiatrists. I don't think this group supports SSM or gay parenting and that group doesn't accomplishes anything.

People who oppose equal rights to gays do so for a shortlist of reasons:

1. The OT Bible condemns it.
2. They see gay sex as disgusting
3. It is human nature for many people to rages against and hate anyone with different perspectives. We see that incessantly on this forum in just election issues and candidates.

The other problem is such same groups in the past condemned gays. Was that valid documentation then, but gays aren't the same as they were 40 years ago?

I just don't think such endorsements accomplish anything either way. That's my only point.

agreed its not surprising

the evidence has been out their for quite sometime now

the sad thing is no matter how much evidence and facts are out there, there will still be those that spread lies, misinformation and simply ignore the truth.

That point was about a decade ago.

I couldn't find any links to the AAP source in the news link you provided, but by comparing the dates i assumed it was this one.
AAP publication
Is it?

If it is ....imo there are some problems with it.
Also, it includes some very interesting points that usually tend to be overlooked or ignored in this debate.

Cheers,
Fallen.

Alright. Another week another reason to avoid the US Medical community as much as humanly possible.
