I'd say he sums it up pretty well.

"Independents hate [the mugshot]. There's no way Donald Trump will win anything above 31% of Independents, which is why Republicans as a whole will get crushed."

He went on to say that Trump, "hurts school board races, he hurts Governorships, Congressional races, Senate races. We will lose all these seats like we did in 22."

MAGAS are delusional if they believe Trump can win in the General. Trump can't get to 270 with his base, and he needs Indies. Even Biden beats Trump with Indies.

The political reality is Trump is poison to Indies, much of it has to do with Trumps actions and inaction on Jan 6. The MAGAS maybe be able to hand wave away Jan 6, not so with Indies.

This is why it's a cult of personality and not about the alleged political movement. They'd rather have a felon election loser who was found in court liable for sexual assaulting a woman, and is facing tens of years of prison time for other crimes, than to win. If they cared about the issues and not the specific person they would just pick someone else with similar politics and less baggage.

It has ALWAYS been about Trump-worship, which is why we saw large swathes of Republicans abandon belief after belief they claimed to hold dear for decades the second Trump speaks out against it.

Isn't Sununu a RINO - according to Trumpists?
Likely a Globalist and an Elitist - according to Trumpists?
Probably scum and trash - again, according to Trumpists?

As Trumps crazies stormed the Capital Jan 6, I could hear any chance of a Trump second term go whoosh down the crapper.

And the polls with Indies still support my thesis statement.

No one wants Trump to be the nominee more than Biden, a fact. But MAGAS in there blind devotion ignore the polling done with Independents.

The only reason Trump will be the GOP nom is because of the crowded field. Trump base would not carry the day if the 70% of GOP primary voters voted as a bloc as the Trump base does. In 2016, there were 16 other candidates to split the non-Trump vote. Trump never garnered more than 30-40% of the primary votes, but the 60-70% of non-Trump votes were distributed among as many as 16 other candidates.

When you have a crowded field, it is vital to get headlines - any headlines - to keep your name out front at all times. That is what Trump did in 2016 and what he is doing today. Every few days Trump spews some nonsense about something and the headlines follow. The media are complicit in this. They gave Trump hundreds of millions of dollars in free airtime and they continue to do so by covering his every word as if it was God himself speaking.

Yep, the best way for repubicants to lose to a very unpopular Joe “Where am I?” Biden is to run the last guy who lost to him again. There are definitely more ‘never Trump’ voters than ‘dump Biden’ voters among independents.

He will be attacked by Trump for saying that.

Trump won't defend himself at all, won't talk about his own 'qualifications.' He will go right after the other person, make up a bunch of stuff; try to discredit him.

I would seriously question my sanity if I considered buying a used car from Chris Sununu

Trump took over the Republican party. They now claim anybody who doesn't blindly support Trump is a RINO. Traditional Republicans were pushed out.

Look what happened to Liz Cheney. She was honest about Trump and paid for it with her career.

Sununu speaks for all independents now? No, sorry, he speaks only for himself

Nominating Trump is a guarantee of a Biden 2nd term.

They are politically naive, and ignore political reality.

Totally spot-on. Everything. Trump has the deplorable base. No other candidate brings that.

Trump plays the media skillfully and they cannot resist.

He makes a spectacle of himself, and the commercial media is powerless to resist the sensationalism of it.

Trump couldn't get a knowledgeable base so he went for the deplorables.

He's apparently using poll numbers. Nobody picks 31% out of the air. 30%, sure. Maybe 33%, but not 31.
Heres a poll that should worry Biden supporters

77% of Americans think Biden is too old for a second term

What’s that got to do with the thread?

That’s right, nothing!

That's actually low. Even those Biden's age should agree with this. Trump's too old, too. The other candidates are in their prime, except Ramaswamy, who's waiting for his balls to drop.

Haley, who is one of the more reasonable candidates, is campaigning on this. Says a vote for Biden is a vote for Harris. She may be right, but I'm not sure how much traction it will gain. If she can learn to drop that hand in support of a criminal as president, then she could win in the general. But then she loses the nomination. The GOP has painted itself into a corner.

Trump is the only candidate who could lose to Biden in the general and even that isnt a lock. A Trump/Biden race is a race between two people no one wants. Who comes out on top in that sort of matchup is unknowable.

Real Republicans hate Trump too.

In fact the only people that don't are those that can make a couple dollars off his subversion of Democracy and those who have led failed lives desperate for the absolution blaming blacks and immigrants brings them.

Nope.

People don't want Biden because of his age.
People don't want Trump because he is a very sick man intent on ending Democracy.
People will vote for Biden rather than a mini Trump like DeSantis.

Some will. Some wont. The election will hinge on a few thousand votes in about 5 states. Which way it will go is impossible to tell.

What I don't understand is how Trump does it. How does he create such cult-like devotion that his supporters abandon common sense and integrity? Cult leaders are generally regarded as charismatic and charming, but Trump's personality is just ugly.
