Well, that's a dumb question.
Would it have been better if Trump had danced on his front porch, slapping him with a Pythonesque mackerel?

Here's an odd thought- what if Trump had sent someone to talk to him, thank him for his long service and explain why he wouldn't be needed this year? What if just a little effort had been put into treating the guy with dignity and respect?

Aaahh, never mind.

And that's find Grand Mal... but people up in arms about an email being sent which is equal to a phone call. Now does anybody ever expect your boss to show up to your home and treat you with dignity when you get fired from a job? Maybe even give you a chin up speech? Of course not. So why over a VOLUNTEER position should someone expect anything other then an email, phone call or even a letter in the mail?

It's a traditional job he has held once every four years for six decades. It isn't a cabinet post, it isn't a partisan position, it's a tradition.

The man had just lost his wife, for heaven sake! Preparing for this inauguration was the only thing that kept him going through the grief. Then he gets an e-mail ten days away from the big day, and he's just... fired.

He's 89 years old. How many more inaugurations could he have had anyway? What a crappy, sleazy thing to do to an old man who had taken such pride in this accomplishment, only to be swept aside and dismissed so one of Trump's cronies could have the honor.

I repeat... **** Donald Trump.

Who gives a ****? It's a volunteer position and one the guy assumed he had. So in reality you know what they say about assuming right? It happen here.

A phone = Email today. Phone call is just as impersonal as an email. Personally, I would have called, said "you are fired and hung up" which would have taken less time then writing and sending the email.

It's not really as impersonal, not to an old person, or at least it doesn't have to be. It's not even as impersonal as an old fashioned letter to someone of his generation. Maybe to someone in their 20s, who don't use the phone app on their smart phone....

And it's good to know saving you time is the key point here, not showing common courtesy to an old man who's served many Presidents for decades.

I don't have a real problem with being a draft dodger - just draft dodgers who when it suits them and makes them money pretend to be gun waving, badass uber patriot military lovers, etc.

Draft dodging is always done to suit the individual that is dodging the draft. That's kind of the point of the behavior, isn't it?

And I'm sorry but IME, anyone who wears camo all the time and isn't hunting or currently in the military and required to be in uniform has about a 99.9% chance of being an a$$hole, and Ted isn't the rare exception. He wasn't ever a soldier, so don't dress like one and pretend he made the sacrifice others actually DID for their country. My opinion, of course, but he's a fraud from where I sit and I don't have a lot of respect for the guy.

I don't think he ever claimed to be in the military. I would however agree that he is an asshole.

I am making a point. A phone call can be just as impersonal and using Trumps catch phrase (which I quoted) would be.

And secondly, the man didn't serve President but was given a role of announcer at inauguration. Most admins before Trump probably had a don't rock the boat mentality. Only time this man was given a role in admin was G.W. Bush who hired him to announce t-ball games at the White House. Obama ended T-ball games at the White House. No outcry there.

Plus I have seen quotes from the new guy talking up the old guy and saying that he wants to be non poltical like the old guy was. Which makes some sense. Also gotta say that from the stuff the old guy has been saying just recently he seems like a FRUIT LOOP.

It's the second part of the sentence that's important - the part about AFTER dodging the draft doing the pretend soldier and uber patriot bit, with camo stage uni, the flag guitar, the gun waving, etc.

The media jumped on this, and needed some way to tie it to Trump to make him once again look like their villain. 1) Check out 1992 House of Reps Committee on POW/MIA..

2) I never said he wasn't tortured.

3) I said he sang like a Canary while other POWs never did. Colonel Ted Guy the head (senior officer) of the POWs at Hanoi when McCain was there and Col Gordon “Swede” Larson also there both call McCain a liar. Both recommend him to be charged.

4) I suggest you read up on the Alcatraz Gang or even Floyd James (longest held US pow during Vietnam).
