A sad story

Yeah, look up the replika software. I am studying this as part of one of my school assignments on AI and ethics.

You know... links are usually included for a reason

I believe Rumpel struggles with his tablet's capability.

It is in the News again here today

How come?
It's a 2024 story.

Actually...i expect this to become more common.

Kids are becoming increasingly socially awkward, and in person interaction with new people causing anxiety. Which pushes them further into the online life. Which will be further into the waiting arms of AI.

Wow - that is f8cked up.
An AI talking like that to a 14 year old. Those things it said, a 14 year old cannot properly comprehend.

Is the chatbot guilty …. ?

Is there another thread about this here?

Being in the running for the Darwin of the Year Award is not humorous. It's pathetic.
Again, you're wrong. Everyone knows the Darwin Awards are a humorous means of mocking foolish things people do that unintentionally ends their lives. As far as we know, this kid intended to kill himself. Nothing humorous or 'pathetic' about it. You are in essence saying this 14 year-old was foolish and his death deserves to be mocked. That is WHY you brought up the Darwin Awards.

One of the leading reasons young people commit suicide is they lack perspective. They seek a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Add to that, mental illness, and you have a volatile and dangerous situation. Nothing funny about it. AI developers need to keep this in mind.
