"President Biden made an odd remark during his speech at the White House's Cinco de Mayo event on Thursday, as he talked about students in the U.S. learning Spanish.

Biden was speaking to an audience in the Rose Garden of the White House. After commenting on the quarter of U.S. children who can speak Spanish, he began talking about plans to "conquer" and "honor" people who have "gotten in the way."

"Twenty-five out of every 100 children in grades kindergarten through senior in high school speak Spanish," Biden stated. "Twenty-five out of every 100. It's overwhelming the interest of not only those kids but of all Americans that we invest – we invest in the community. And we'll conquer and honor and lift up all those folks who in fact, are, have gotten in the way."

Conquer...honor ..(head scratch) ...Wha choo talkin bout Willis
25 out of 100???? ( index finger twirling around temple)

This garbled blathering aside, One thing I CAN interpret. By 'invesing in the community" he means FREE STUFF IF YOU VOTE DEM!!!

Um...he isn't wrong....25 out of every 100 students probably do speak Spanish in this country.....also, he is talking about racist folks that think we should be a country full of monolingual idiots.

Anyone else notice a pattern? Since a certain someone got indicted we have been entertained by thread after thread about Biden's gaffes.

Ok, he is getting old, probably shouldn't be running for Prez, and tends to drop gaffe bombs. Except, as ClaraD has pointed out, this time there was no gaffe. And the OP just mimicking Fox News doesn't serve him well. Now can there be a debate about whether he should run or not? Nope. Just one thread after another just mocking him to soothe the hurt feelings of those who are really angry that their guy got indicted.

And don't kid yourself, that is exactly what THIS is all about.

except it isn't even really a gaffe....24 out of every 100 students are Latino in the US....and 20% in the US do speak Spanish either at home or as their primary language. (that statistic does not include Puerto Rico...which would arguably raise the number to 25%)

You should be his speech writer.

Thanks for the correction, I edited my comment :)

That may be what his speech writers were talking about, but pay attention to what Biden actually said. WTF does “conquer and honor and lift up” mean?

The number is 17%. But , hey, for a liar like Biden, 17 is the same as 25!!!
LAFFRIOT

  • The American Community Survey showed that nationwide, about 17% of all public school students speak Spanish, according to experts at the Pew Research Center.

We asked Biden’s campaign to provide evidence for the statistic. We didn’t get a reply by deadline.

Don't your breath waiting for that!!! LAFRIOT

It would seem a good idea to make Spanish an official language, alongside English, in the USA. Many countries have two or more.

Conquer bigotry and honor and lift up all of us?

Disgusting.

Funny to see a libertarian call for more government.

Why does having another official language imply "more government"? It would actually mean greater freedom.

The proposal for an “official” language in the US has been rejected numerous times.

Maybe time to th-again as the number of Spanish speakers has increased.

Why?

Perhaps a better idea would be for US to embrace teaching more foreign language to students…like most every other developed nation in the world.

The same dopes that scream "We're in America, we speak English!" are the same idiots that go to a foreign country (if they are brave enough) and speak English to the locals and get frustrated when the locals don't understand.

Hmm… instead of teaching what?

Why is it an “either/or”

My son is in private school and is learning Spanish and Mandarin. As well as all the standard classes.

Many private schools start teaching foreign languages way earlier than public schools.

He even attended a preschool where Spanish and Mandarin were part of his daily schedule.

Why is it an “either/or”

That’s the way that any “elective” course is offered. A student may elect to take one of many “elective” courses offered.

OK, but that simply means that he elected to do so.

Many private schools start teaching foreign languages way earlier than public schools.

Few public schools offer any elective courses in the “earlier” grades.

He even attended a preschool where Spanish and Mandarin were part of his daily schedule.

OK, but that was instead of teaching something else.

No, it’s not “elective”. It is a part of the standard curriculum.
