I went to school in Illinois. During my time there, I found out someone I knew was an illegal immigrant. She was incredibly intelligent and will probably give more to our country than a lot of citizens, so this is fine with me.
My parents were legal immigrants, so I disapprove. Some of us love the Constitution and this country.

The outrage... those little tacomonkeys might get an education and do something for this country.
Okay?My parents were legal immigrants, so I disapprove. Some of us love the Constitution and this country.
Well, technically, she does have say in our laws because she was pretty involved with the Dream Act - the topic of this thread. But will she ever take the steps to become a citizen? Till she is she has no say in our laws or participate in politics (vote). Wonder how or if she has a SSN or IRS ID number?

I do not stoop to using demeaning terms. They are illegal aliens, nothing more.
Irony. You has it.
Why on Earth do you think dehumanizing them altogether is not demeaning?
Tacomonkeys is only slightly worse than what I just quoted.
Can't say that I am surprised.Only a liberal would think its a good idea to fix dinner for those trespassing onto your property.
illegal alien is a term universally understood, and is not dehumanizing at all.
Saying they are "nothing more" than an illegal alien certainly dehumanizes them.
in context, I take it as him explaining that he said nothing more then that they are illegal aliens.... The second sentence is an attempt to qualify the first. Perhaps I am wrong, but I don't believe so.

He might not have been trying to be demeaning, but he certainly accomplished it. Not to mention that just because something is "universally understood" it doesn't mean it isn't demeaning. And the thing is, the people who like to use the term "Illegal alien" know that people find it demeaning but they are too self-important to use the equally universally understood but not considered demeaning "undocumented immigrants" label. Adding "nothing more" to that term is absolutely demeaning and dehumanizing, regardless of what intention he had.
If he was actually being honest when he said he didn't stoop to demeaning terms, he would use "undocumented immigrants" instead of "Illegal aliens" and he certainly would not add "nothing more" to a negative label he applies to another human being.
But he wasn't being honest. He just doesn't want to be associated with the implied bigotry of the term "tacomonkeys" when it is used an anti-illegal immigration parody comment, whihc is what triggered his statement.
Now, he's free to dehumanize and demean them all he wants, but if he's doing so with his terminology then he doesn't really have any standing to say he doesn't stoop to demeaning terms. I know that there are people who want to cling to their dehumanizing, demeaning terminology who will refuse to recognize reality on this by saying things like "It's universally understood" but no matter how much they lie to themselves about it, it won't be the case. Is it socially acceptable in some circles? Sure. But that doesn't mean it isn't demeaning and dehumanizing.
anybody that took his words as insensitive is way too emotional to debate with in the first place.
Interesting. Does it make it easier for you to pretend you're right about something by making up things about those you disagree with?
I am right child. you just went off on a tangent crying about the term illegal alien, proving what your actual issue is.
I see that it does make it easier for you to pretend you are right.
What's also interesting is that you accuse others of being "way too emotional to debate with in the first place", yet you resort to direct insults instead of an actual argument. Do you think that this might actually be a case of you projecting your own issues onto others? Over-emotionality, I mean.
the term illegal alien is an accurate term to immediately understand what we are talking about.
your solution of undocumented worker is idiotic.
In no way is illegal alien offensive.
This is akin to calling a black hole offensive
