If you were visiting Europe but tried to avoid Germany, which of its neighbour countries would you prefer?

I would choose ....

  • France

  • Luxembourg

  • Belgium

  • Netherlands

  • Denmark

  • Poland

  • Czech Republic

  • Austria

  • Switzerland

  • at the end of the day I would visit Germany, all the same

I spent a lot of years in Germany in the US Army and loved it, although it went downhill with reunification. Now the US military is statining more and more troops in Eastern Europe. I am jealous and wish I could be part of that new adventure.

Same as Elvis Presley! :)
Elvis was stationed in Giessen, just north of Frankfurt. My first tour in Germany I was stationed in Babenhausen, just south of Frankfurt. He is not forgotten!

Belgium is famous for being the one country all the other European nations used to pass through on the way to war with the rest!

Prague. Yes, it is in Czech Republic. But, Prague. Italy does not border Germany, so I could not choose it, but that would be my first choice. Then again, I am an expat of 20 years overseas, so I am biasly informed by experience.

I’ve always wanted to celebrate Oktoberfest in Germany. Beer and sausage sounds good. I know a person in Munich, so it would be there.

Denmark, I already speak Norwegian and let’s be honest, Norwegian is simply Danish

Babenhausen is a town I know quite well! :)
I also know Gießen and the neighbouring Marburg.
And the old saying: "Gießen has a University, Marburg is a University."

More Oktoberfest! :)

Good memories... I haven't been back to Germany since the 90's. Iraq and Kuwait aren't nearly such fun.

Bohemia (Czech Republic) 'cause Kolaches. Yum!

Belgium.

Because it's the closest thing to Germany. I love Germany, and would never avoid it.

When I was in uniform in Germany I had a clearance that kept me from visiting the east. Now we are stationing troops in Romania, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, the Baltic States... I'm so jealous of the young Soldiers enjoying this new adventure!
