Modern cars burn gasoline exceptionally clean. Diesel is still a problem for the atmosphere. Cargo ships are probably the worse polluters on the planet. Solution here would be not to allow any in US ports that do not meet very high, strict standards. Same with Mexican trucks coming across the border with goods.

The USA itself, with the exception of diesel IC engines has become a very clean nation for how much fossil fuels it uses.

The idea that a nation like Scotland can produce all of their electricity via renewables, is not the same as saying that fills their
entire energy demand.

The renewable electricity tab of the same link shows that renewable electricity generation for 2022 was 35,702 GWh,
so more than half of all their energy used still comes from fossil fuels.
This does not even count the 3.2 GWh of diesel used in agriculture.
In short, Yes their survival might be compromised without fossil fuels

How many more billions of tons do the scientists you listen to believe it will take to warm the planet? Do they have a number?
