Yep, and most traffic law violations are “only civil infractions”, however driving without a license is a criminal infraction. My point was that we do not limit police to enforcing only criminal infractions.

I wouldn't want to deport anyone for speeding 10 mph over the speed limit either. IMO it's better to concentrate our efforts on actual dangerous people, like the ones in OP's article.

We would not have “dangerous” illegal immigrants if we had no illegal immigrants. We arrest unlicensed drivers whether they are doing anything particularly “dangerous” or not.

OK, but does that (bolded above) make sense? I assume that you do not see requiring drivers to have licenses as being an unrealistic goal.

Studies tell us citizens tend to be more dangerous than undocumented immigrants.

Thus, the argument is bullshit.

I'm not necessarily opposed to making at least some unauthorized immigration a crime going forward, if it's coupled with some form of amnesty for those already here. I'm not interested in ex-post-facto punishing people who were previously not committing any crimes by being here, and I'm certainly not interested in deporting sweet old grandmothers who have lived here for 30 years.

But if we want to change the law to make it a crime for newcomers to be here without authorization, I would be open to that. At least in some cases.

An even better example is Fox's editorializing by calling them illegal immigrants... They could easily be entirely legal and still have been arrested in this action. ICE says that non citizens were arrested and says nothing about the nationalities of those arrested.
