I stand in awe of massive liars like Hannity and Limbaugh and how they hold/held their audience.

Pretty simple formula. Tell listeners what they want to hear. Tell them their problems in life are the fault of others; affirmation action, illegal immigrants, elites, etc. Claim to be fighting for them against the rich and powerful coastal elites, who look down on them.

It's a formula Trump picked up on and worked to perfection.

He did not invent it, he took a page out of his favorite book.

di d he read MEin Kampf too? You know ,to get ideas?

LAFF
The one term mistake was a wanna be dictator who incited an insurrection to stay in power so I would not be surprised.

What Hannity and Limbaugh did over the decades really isn't that hard IF you have no integrity, are pretty intelligent and you are a charismatic talker.

Another must is you can't care about how many people you hurt.

I own Mein Kampf.

I have read it a few times. I return to Volume 1 Chapter 6 quite often. I suggest it to those who are interested in propaganda. It explains why the Shepard Fairey "Hope" poster and "MAGA" resonated.

daily chuckle.
Who did those two ever hurt.

That's the nail's head right there.

The thing that the vast majority of slime peddlers have in common is lack of integrity. Sean sure has none. Fat Rush had none at all. Do you think that beady eyed racist Tucker Carlson has any? Laura Ingraham? Jeanine Pirro? Doocey? Kilmeade? Not at all. They have no interest in integrity. They just want to stir the shit and make a ton of money at it.

I think we found us a Hannity and Limbaugh consumer.
i have listened to ,MAYBE ,a total of a half hour of Hannity and Limbaugh in five years.
I don't think I count in their ratings book.

Democrats hate that Trunp took a page from their book and ran with it.

Right on!
Only left wingers have integrity. Everybody knows that! And they don't spin- they are straight shooters!!!!

So how would you know?

I don't disagree with your comment. One reason it works is because there's a significant amount of truth to people acting like elitists.

That's not the issue. trump didn't 'act like an elitist' yet these same people are his cult? 'Acting like an elitist' is simply an ironic propaganda attack selectively applied. It's a way of having billionaires who are harming people get them to support those billionaires by having media figures call Democrats elitists.

I agree with most of your comment but I'm talking about things that Chris Hedges talks about: Many Democratic politicians are into meritocracy, elite (Ivy League) schools, flyover country, urban and suburban versus rural, etc.

You're right, but that's the small 'nugget of truth' in the propaganda. So what that there are Ivy Leagues and coastal people talking about flyover country? Is the solution to destroy the Ivy leagues and prohibit saying flyover country? Those things aren't what's important, they're used to manipulate people who will resent them and then support the people actually taking their money. It's getting those people to blame the wrong people.

Take, for example, Nancy Pelosi (or Obama or the Clintons), each with pretty large fortunes.

What you have is billionaires like the Koch brothers who are taking trillions from the American people, who fund a propaganda machine that pays pundits to attack Pelos (or Obama or the Clintons) as 'elitists' and build resentment and hate by Americans toward them, even though they might be fighting for the people, to get support for the minions who serve the real elitists on the right.

This is also where the hyped propaganda against someone like George Soros comes in - a bogeyman to tell people, who naturally have anger at some sort of elites, to blame bogeymen instead of the real villains.

It's a hell of a con, and works on half the country.

The point was, it works because there's a nugget of truth to it. Even Bernie Sanders is attacked as elite because he wrote a book that made enough to buy another house. Koch brothers paying for propaganda to attack Bernie as elite to mislead people to view him as elite rather than the Republican donors. It's perverse.

The main point it boils down to is economics, more specifically neoliberal economics. Chris Hedges' speeches about despair do a great job of explaining it.
