I lost some very good long-time friends today. 😞

We've known this couple since the 90s - - almost 30 years.

Marty (not his real name) called me this morning. "Welp, can you believe it? . . we voted for Trump." I told him that it was incredible. . . . Literally. These people have been ardent anti-Trumpers since 2016. But I tried to offer some encouragement - I explained why even though Trump is a despicable person, he is by far the best choice for President/Commander-In-Chief. I reassured Marty that Trumps's opponent is a two-faced liar, and the most politically radical presidential candidate in U.S. history. I pointed out that while she might be a highly competent D.A., she is incompetent in an executive position. I pointed out what a failure her work as the Border Czar has been, and how the Biden administration is responsible for the calamitous pullout of Afghanistan when 13 U.S. troops needlessly lost their lives due to incompetence of the Commander-In-Chief. It was total mayhem, and probably one of the most unorganized military blunders in U.S. history.

I also pointed out that Trump is only one with experience as a head-of-state. Anyways I was trying to help him rationalize his (wise) decision to vote for someone whom he loathes, based on doing the right thing. I said that voting for Trump's opponent is a foolish choice - and that he and his wife should be at peace voting for Trump.

That's when Marty lost it. He called me an effing racist, and said that he never wants to speak to me or my wife again. Obviously they did NOT vote for Trump - they actually voted for Trump's incompetent opponent. And he's bitter that I pointed out WHY Trump is a better choice.

I really hope Marty calls to apologize and reconcile. Over the years we've done so many things together, and they are good people - they helped us when we were in trouble, and vice-versa.

For the record, I am not voting for Trump OR Trump's opponent. I'll vote for the LP candidate, like I have since 2000.

This sounds like a Reddit AITA post but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and hope you can repair your friendship.

this is stupid. Carry on.

I don't talk politics with friends, unless their politics are similar to mine, and even then only for a few seconds before I change the subject. I talk politics with the Wife and the Poodle. The Poodle is deaf and pretty noncommittal... :ROFLMAO:

your mistake is they were never your friend,,

they only accepted you when you benefitted them,,

the LP candidate is also trumps opponent,,

When you are talking about Trump's most recent delusions and vulgarities, are you really talking politics?

I mean, someone says to you, "When Trump says Arnold Palmer had a good swing, he might not be talking about his golf game," is that political?

What an odd conversation. Your friend lied to you......friends don't do that
I'm thinking that, too. But these people have helped us in so many ways. We love them both,, , , I don't know why Marty felt compelled to lie about voting for Trump. i *think* he was trying to make me feel good about them. I've been very clear how much I dislike Trump's opponent.

Anyways, I sure hope he apologizes. I'm willing to get past it.

I was about to call Marty a racist, then I saw the second half of your post.

Glad Marty isn't a racist.

You claim Trump 'is by far the best choice for President/Commander-In-Chief' yet aren't going to vote for him?

I respectfully suggest you change your mind.

MAGA.

Since when do libertarians support dictatorships? You need to change your bio to fascist.

I suppose it's better than the standard "I used to be a Democrat so you can trust me when I say {insert standard MAGA bumper sticker rant}:, but it's not really any more convincing.

It's even less convincing, if you think about it. @SkyChief is attempting to bootstrap his bullshit into credibility by claiming to be an ardent libertarian who is voting for the Libertarian Party....

...but in doing so, he's forgotten that he's claiming he lost longtime friends for urging friends to feel good about the fact that they voted for Trump.

lol wut?

That's when Marty lost it. He called me an effing racist, and said that he never wants to speak to me or my wife again.

If this wasn't made up bullshit, I'd note that that might have something to do with stuff you said to this person but aren't willing to admit saying here on DP.

What was anyone supposed to take from this anyway?

I would not generally discuss that with friends, no. We have more interesting things to talk about. Discussing Politics is depressing.

This sounds like a Reddit AITA post but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and hope you can repair your friendship.

I don't. It doesn't make any sense.

He claims he's a libertarian who has voted Libertarian Party consistently, and he wants us to believe friends called him a "racist" and dumped him because he congratulated them on voting for Trump (even though he himself claims to not support Trump).

The only sense I can tease from it is that it's supposed to be a convoluted repetition of the "the left calls you racist if it disagrees with you" Trumpist lie.

Things that make this look 100% phony.

1. Friends for 30 years, somehow didn't already have established boundaries on discussing politics OR Didn't already routinely discuss politics and were not bothered by it either way?
2. His "friends" who don' want to discuss politics, decided to tell him who they voted for out of the blue (not just "we voted! lines were long, lines were short...glad we did, gonna be a long night election night!".
3. They did #2 on top of #1, and they also straight up lied to him about who they voted for!?
4. His post is supposedly about losing friends, boo hoo, but the takes the time to spell out specific (phony) criticisms of Harris and (equally phony) praise of Trump
5. The always included "But I'm not voting Trump!!!" wink wink
6. his friend of 30 years then calls him, for no reason, a racist

Some of those are just so implausible it hurts.

Looks like manufactured propaganda meant to appeal to people on social media, just as others noted, typical (so I hear on reddit) of facebook bullshit posts.

I also wager you're 100% you're voting for Trump, or can't due to legal reasons.

They sound superficial. But that's how Harris supporters are

Did they display anger like that previously?

If you look at his follow-up post, he says that he has made it very clear how he feels about Kamala Harris to "friends" who apparently don't want to discuss politics with him.

You'd think that @SkyChief would make up a fictitious story where he's not the actual villain. And yet, in his story his character is the annoying person constantly shoving his politics in other peoples' faces. He couldn't even make up a story properly.

Sad. I miss when we had better MAGA more adept at constructing creative and compelling lies. The OP really should stay in his lane and stick with the Hunter and DEI stuff.
