I Had to Respond to an EMail

Why do so many people apparently find it "demeaning" to report on what they did? Pretty much every desk job I've ever had I've had to report on every minute I was at work. 30 minutes doing this, 1.5 hours doing that, etc... I've only ever worked in the private sector.
The question is how much does it cost to go through those emails and what credentials do they have that make them qualified to decide if it’s “worth what they get paid”?

It’s about subservience, stroking trumps inflated ego.

It was part of a time tracking and project management program that kept track of notes and time spent on various projects company-wide. And it wasn't just me that had to do it! Do you really think management invested in such a system just to keep track of an incompetent worker?! What a bizarre perception you have of the private sector! It's downright dreamlike...

In the private sector, profitability is a thing, and management likes to be able to calculate that sort of thing. Have you ever worked in the private sector? Just curious. Sure sounds like you haven't since you seem to treat accountability as some sort of punishment rather than the standard.

Same thing here. Again treating accountability as some sort of punishment or reaction to incompetence. Also, how does one calculate "results" without being able to calculate time (and thus money) spent on said results? It was like that before I worked at the place and applied to everyone, even the bosses. I guess here is another person who never worked in the private sector...
Problem with this position is the government employee isn’t in the profit maximization business. They are tasked with completing tasks that don’t put money in the pockets of billionaires but facilitate the function of government. The kinds of things that need to get done but don’t free up money for more tax cuts for billionaires.

What "credentials" did you have in mind?
Some idea of what the employee does and if it gets done properly.

Not some Musk lummox with zero experience in whatever the job at hand is, looking to free up money for tax cuts for billionaires.

What "credentials" did you have in mind?
And I see you quoted the “tax cuts for billionaires” part but didn’t comment. Which I must therefore conclude that you agree that that is what this is all about.

That's a lot of rationalization to not answer a simple question from your boss.
No boss I ever had would ask such a question. Seriously. What did you do last week? You would do that, list 5 points that you accomplished?
It's demeaning. Insulting. And it's insulting to whoever supervises you. Insinuating that you are a slacker and they never caught on.
How can you not get this? Are you so subservient-oriented that you just accept whatever shit comes downhill? It's a frigging insult. And it will affect morale, and loyalty. It's a stupid idea.

This week I had to respond to an email from Pete Hegseth, our Secretary of Defense. The email requested that I provide 5 bullet points about what I accomplished in my DOD civilian job last week.

I found this completely demeaning to everyone who is serving our country. I served this nation for over 20 years in the US Army, retiring as a Master Sergeant and I now work for the Department of Defense. Meanwhile, our Secretary of Defense never commanded a unit greater than a Company, but is serving as Trump and Musk's lap dog.

I realize that this is nothing but political theater, since many Trump supporters literally hate government workers, but the vast majority of government workers work hard and serve this nation, but also need their job to provide for themselves and their families. Pay for government workers is less than 3% of the budget. I really worry about these people, who are affected by this garbage.

Fortunately I don't need the job. I tried the retirement thing, but got bored and went back to work. So, in case anyone reads them, which I doubt, my 5 bullet comments were:

-**** you
-**** you
-**** you
-**** you

Has Pete been drinking again?

It takes you a half hour or more to come up with 5 things on a high level you did in the past week? Maybe you don't deserve that job if it takes you that long.

If the question is serious then the answer is serious.

Maybe you deserve the job if you'll absorb that degree of insult and suck it up.
That's who will be left in the federal civil service- suck-ups with no options

You can still keep track of time and do analysis! Take an IRS agent for example. It's not exactly rocket science to track the time he spends on a given project and the resulting additional tax collected from the project when it's done.

Sounds pretty vague. I'm sure Musk can figure it out.

You hate billionaires and like to rant and rave about successful people. What else is new?

Easily. By running a time report. We even have it so it shows the bill $ figure associated with the task.
It's demeaning.
Thanks for letting me know! I'll be sure to tell my boss on Monday.

When are Republican members of Congress going to have to answer these same questions?

Billionaires are most often addicts. Addicted to their brains own chemicals. Like a sex or gambling addict.

If you can never get enough if anybody anywhere has more, If you work 80 hours a week until the comfort of your distant descendants is secured and and you continue to work 80 hours a week, you are addicted to getting moar.

Keep licking their butts. They’ll get to your slice of the pie eventually. It’s really the only source of new wealth for them: taking yours.

By definition MAGA is beta personality types.

No alpha type worships another man.

Especially one that wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire.

I hope you don't pretend to know what you are talking about. It is the exact same thing. Those learning targets and lesson plans had to match state standards and drop-in evaluations. They also had to prove that we were, indeed, actually teaching. BTW, we were to also provide video links to our lessons. When your boss tells you to do something, instead of bitching, do what your boss tells you to do.
Elon is now the boss?

Is that what you gathered from a simple question? Christ! My boss asks me what I'm working on all the time, either explicitly or by looking at my time spent log.
Does he ask this for proof that your services are needed? Or is he checking to see if you can take on another task? There is a difference.

That's a lot of words when you could have made do with 😭 about billionaires.

It's both.

I don't see it as an insult. I am quite certain that is not where Musk's or Trump's mind was going with that request. Why do Liberals always try to make it up as they go? Oh yeah, because they are consistently on the wrong side of the argument.

That's too bad that your boss doesn't see the value of his employees. No need to wish that on everyone.
Boss is looking to see if my services are needed for the particular task I'm working on. Thinks he might need to hire someone to handle the cheaper tasks so I can work on the more profitable ones. It's what happens when a business grows.

Oh, well then congrats. You aren't in the same position as the OP brought up then at all, are you?

So do you understand why timesheets are not a big deal (to be asked to provide one)?

As a former vet myself I can proudly say I'm ecstatic someone like you will no longer be sucking off the government tit funded by my tax dollar.
