Lately, since I have been signing up for covid19 boosters I have been asked, for the first time in my life, if I identify as a man or a woman. I find that jarring. I also resent being asked what sex I was born biologically. Why is that anyone's business?

I am not trying to deny anyone the right to be any sex. Why do people have to ask me about my sex?

I would find it jarring too. Someone is keeping count for some reason.

Doctors care a lot about ID-ing patients, because some treatments can be harmful if given to the wrong person. Of course, getting an extra Covid booster won't do a lot of harm, so it's probably just habit.

Try not filling in the field.

If I can't I 'identify as 'other'.

Verbally I either say 'none of your business' or "non binary", even though neither I nor they has a ****ing clue what that is. Once I replied "why?". Never got a response. Where I can, especially surveys I lie about everything. According to one outfit I am a 30's something businessman who is hard core right wing, against everything. Another I am a senior with an income of over $100k. You should see the mail that id gets!
One civic survey is about travel, so I report the real goods, what really happened only not that day.

You have to make your own fun!

Oh, yeah a political party called looking for donations. I had them explaining that "no" they do not "donate" to me, but the reverse.

Pretend madness is really neat. "I'll answer your question when you tell me what you did with my wife...!" Usually ends the call.

I was answering questions on standardized forms on-line while attempting to find the best site at which to receive a vaccination. All the questions were, supposedly, about whether one was eligible for the new, bivalent covid 19 booster. The form wasn't created out of habit, but for a purpose.

I think I may have been asked if I identified as male or female instead of whether I was male or female. I am used to being asked that. Why am I used to that? people have always kept data on the number of males and females in geographical areas; schools; districts; etc.

"Identifying" as one gender when their records have you as the other gender, helps to resolve what would otherwise be a big red flag on them matching you to the records. I don't understand why you find it troubling: you identify as your birth sex I presume, so just put that?

They want to know how to address you when your name is called. Nothing more than that. People are so sensitive these days.

I don't even understand what you wrote. In my day "gender" was a term that referred to grammar. I really won't be judgmental about how the word is used now, but I refuse to use it in some newfangled way myself. I don't "identify" as anything except as a crazy woman who was driven insane by her family. I am what I am. Female. Wife. Mother. Dog mother.

You identify as a particular kind of woman, therefore a woman. Still not clear why it bothers you to be asked.

Are you sure? I get a lot of blood tests, and every time I have to confirm Name, Date of Birth, and Gender on the tubes. Gender may be only 1 bit of information, but I expect every BIT helps.

You could have said NO and they would have written down Non-Binary as the alternative.

Whenever I'm asked about my sex, I reply, as often as possible. When asked about my gender, I reply "bender."
My peepee is my private business unless I'm at the urologist.

It's not their business. Businesses and organizations have become politically and socially motivated to be invasive and controlling.

I am obviously of a different generation from you.
If you do not understand why it bothers me to be asked whether I "identify" as a woman you were not born in the 1950's.
See, if you were born in the 1950's all your life people asked you if you were a boy or a girl. They asked if you were male or female. They asked if you were a man or a woman.
Data was collected to see how many men lived and worked in Alaska compared to the number of women who lived and worked there.
Data was collected to see how much money was spent on girls' sports teams at the local high school as opposed to boys' sports teams.
The numbers of males and females were counted primarily for financial purposes. That way one could calculate the percent of a man's hourly wage a woman earned by doing the same job.

So it comes as a surprise to those of us raised as if our sex was a fact, suddenly to be told we must opine on it. Especially now that men regulate the abortions of those women who are actually pregnant and want them. Our opinion of our pregnancies doesn't change the reality of them.

The world is changing. This particular change may be a passing fad or a more permanent shift in how society labels people. Either way try to be less upset with this new trend because it's not going to change just because you're upset. If it really gets under your skin, then find other like-minded people who are equally upset and start a grassroots pushback campaign. For what it's worth we all have to deal with daft policies dreamed up by pin-heads and ideologues, so you're not alone in your generic discomfort. We are all jarr-heads in these culture wars, I guess.

Focus on the positives in life and ignore this silly chaff. You have a family and great dogs to shield you from much of the stupidity which consumes other folks' minds. Count your blessing and not your jarrings.

Cheers, be well and try to identify as happy!

I think I shall summon my large dog from downstairs. He usually sleeps with me, but seems to be snoozing on the couch in the living room tonight. You remind me that he can calm me. Thank you. :)

They inquire so that they can address you as you prefer, to be courteous. It's for in-person and electronic communication, when addressing someone.

Anytime you fill out many many forms, like driver's license, job applications, etc...you're asked what sex you are. Why is this so different?

Imposing your own idea of gender on a dog! You know we're going to outlaw that, right? ;)

They feel compelled to educate you about their woke gibberish nonsense.

Wokeism is a religion. It is my sincere hope that people see it for the BS that it is and move on to a more realistic belief system.

It's all about gathering medical data for analytical purposes.
The irony would be that some would not put down their correct gender thereby affecting the analysis of the data collected.

But what difference does it make what you identify as? I can identify as a purple space gorilla that has no bearing on my medical treatment whatsoever
