I did volunteer on the border a bit under Trump in 2018. It was sort of surreal, with the immigration service screening people in at the border and taking migrants to our shelter in El Paso, even as Trump was denouncing them in Washington. Some US soldiers from a nearby military base even came by in their spare time to set up a chapel where the migrants could have services. Salvation Army provided cots, and church groups special meals.

As I remember the stats, the percentage of asylum grants has stayed much the same. If you don’t like what I did, get the laws changed and the three relevant treaties removed. As I said before and repeat now, immigration officials cooperated with my work and that of others. I addressed meetings of asylum officers and immigration judges and have the thank you letters from them for doing so. Why would they invite me to talk about issues and thank me for addressing their regional or national meeting if I was causing so much crime through my work.?
