With the US having a childhood chronic disease epidemic like no other country, why should the government pay for diabetes water and candy?
They can still get a treat if they want but the government shouldn't be paying for it.
Can you answer that question without deflecting?
I eat healthy most of the time, but still allow restaurant food or some ice cream occasionally.
Thats not what this is about. This is about the government paying for junk food when we have a childhood chronic disease epidemic.
Do tell how banning diabetes water and candy from SNAP gives billionaires a tax cut and be specific.
I have no desire to micromanage what people do and do not eat.
If family X qualifies for $250 month in food stamps, spend it however they see fit.
I don’t even bother to micromanage what my own kid eats daily. Why the hell do I want to micromanage what someone else’s family does?
And why on earth would I want to spend government resources to establish, administer and run such micromanagement? Especially when I don’t fundamentally agree with the premise behind it.
There is no such thing as a “good” food or a “bad” food. Every calorie we put into our bodies is utilized in one fashion or another.
The best way to help people form healthy relationships with food and make informed decisions regarding food is to eliminate people operating from a place of hunger and need. And then providing them avenues to experience greater education around food choices, better understanding of what their body uses certain calories from certain foods for, and greater access to a variety of foods.
Janet Smith living at 47th and Lancaster Ave in Philly doesn’t have an actual grocery store within 10 miles. She does have some Dollar General type stores and quickie mart places that accept EBT though.
You know what they have? Cheap food. Lots of packaged goods. Lots of soda.
She’s got a couple kids to feed and works 2 jobs.
A pack of hot dogs, pack of buns, some boxed Mac n cheese and a 12 pack of generic soda costs her $10? $15?
And it fills bellies.
I want to make sure she has her food stamps and those bellies get filled. I want to work to get her better public transportation, a better financial situation and a way to operate where she’s not just fighting to keep her head above water.
And I understand that crap calories are better than no calories and there are only so many hours in a day and most people are doing the best they can.
You want to spend money micromanaging and judging the choices she makes. Or just taking the food away from her and her family period.
We aren’t the same. Never will be.
MAGA ‘Merica. No food stamps for you! The wealthy need a tax cut - here, buy a Tesla. They’re on the lawn of the White House.
