How many people voted for Trump?

Divide 132,899,453 by .55 and you get the number of voting age citizens: 241,635,369.

Divide 61,898,584 by the total number of voting age citizens, and you get .256.



So, 25.6% of US adults voted for Trump, just over a quarter.

I'm not sure just how we could calculate how many of that 25% actually just voted against Hillary.
 
I'll say about 25% of all Trump supporters were actually for Trump. I was vehemently against Hillary near the end: what with the hardcore cheating and collusion between her and the DNC.
 

The other way to look at it is that 45 percent didn't care enough to vote. Why?
 
And that's why democracy doesn't work with an uninformed and/or apathetic electorate.

We make it extremely difficult. You have to register months in advance, find your polling place, stand in line (understaffed) during a workday and then interpret a ballot that's a couple pages long.

So, 25% of 25%, or just over 6% of the populace actually like Trump. That sounds about right.

Sounds like Illinois needs to revise its election system. I walked right in, got a ballot, and voted, no standing in line, no waiting.

would it work better if we compelled that other disinterested 45% to vote despite their ignorance of the issues/candidates?

i like that they chose to exclude themselves

He won, she lost....

Did either come close to a majority of Americans voting for them? Absolutely not

But according to everything I know, he got enough votes in the right places to matter

Maybe, just maybe those flyover states have some importance after all, eh?

Maybe from now on, politicians on both sides will pay a bit more attention to everyone....which in my opinion is how it should be

Not just those in a few key states that everyone calls the battleground states
 

You're right: What does it matter now?

But, those flyover states have a lot more power when it comes to electing a president than either the west coast or New York State.

Hillary never set foot in Wisconsin and her supporters are having a temper tantrum that she lost.

Hillary promised massive unemployment after shutting down the coal business in Pennsylvania and Ohio and her supporters are having a temper tantrum that she lost.

Hillary promised to execute Cubans in number that would make Hitler blush and she lost Florida.

Basically if Hillary ignored you completely you got off easy considering she promised to make some Americans destitute or outright kill others.
 

So, Hillary Clinton promised massive unemployment and to execute Cubans.

And she still got more popular votes than Trump.

What does that say about Trump?

Nothing. It says a lot about the voters in New York City, Chicago, and the California coast.
 
Same here. I just show my ID, get a control number and walk to a voting machine. I enter the control number and the voting choices comes up on the screen. I make my choices, review them and press the big VOTE button. I'm in and out in less than 10 minutes. Voting is super easy in Texas.
