How long before...

Hey it is War on Christmas time, ain't it? Well better get this party going!

And as UtahBill said, Christmas has lost its religious meaning. It is now more an American secular holiday than it is a Christian holiday...does that mean the war was successful?

Not successful, it was a tie. Everybody lost....

Why not move the Holy Day to sometime in April, its closer to the probable time the Christ was born, and separates the whole thing from the old Pagan rites. We could even come up with a new name for this winter celebration...any Ideas?

I wonder what would would happen if I demanded that the airport replace their Christma diplay with a Saturnalia one...

It worked for a couple of rabbis.

It sounds like a Mel Brooks movie. :rofl

Are you in Seattle?

...home of Nirvana, Hendrix, and a whole lotta rain!

Actually, my Latin class celebrates Saturnalia. We get extra credit for wearing togas and acting Roman-like (though I have no intention of doing so). It's really kinda awesome, because every other holiday celebration has to be non-denominational, which sucks.

Hey, I wonder if I could sue them for forcing their religion on me...

The war, if you want to call it that, was over with long before the fundamentalist Christians figured out there even was one. It's been decades since Christmas was really a mainstream religious holiday.

Give it up, not only did they lose the war, they slept through it.

Some didn't sleep thru it, they were wide awake as they aided and abetted the 'enemy', sabotaged the efforts of the few who fought the good fight, and they essentially switched from worshipping God to worshipping the dollar.....
The way I see it, if you have to lie to get a job, or keep a job, you have given up on your Christian beliefs. Better to be poor than be rich at the expense of the poor. Selfishness and greed are probably the most common faults that will get us labeled as goats on judgement day....

wretched excess day? conspicuous consumption day? buy your children's love with gifts day? once a year display of pretend love for each other day?
Do I sound cynical yet?

Thanks to my cult like upbringing, Christmas has no significance in my life therefor I will not miss it when the minions of the left completely destroy whatever it was supposed mean. It seems like a harmless enough of a holiday though. Not sure why anybody gets their panties in a wad over it.......

I truly enjoy the Christmas season. I think it has something for everyone.

That's likely true, the problem is that you get some religious zealots who think that only *THEIR* way should be imposed on everyone else or they just might feel bad about it.

Ah yes… All the riotous reasoning concerts of the virtual grinches mired in denial/unbelief pointing their pc fashioned fingers… “Zealot!”

The self-righteous biggots who whine commercialism to appease /justify the joy of their not giving.

The alcoholic Santas playing pull my finger with little Johnny.

Epileptic Suzie Seizure having a Grandma under the lights.

Black Friday stampedes… Survival of the fittest fool.

…And those songs.

…The light in my little boy’s eyes.

Call it what you will… For me it will always be Christmas.

How long before we see a slew of threads on the topic of "Atheists/liberals/secular humanists attempting to abolish Christmas"?
Every forum I've ever been on has a ton of these threads during the month of December.
Anyone want to place a wager on who will post the first one this year?
My money is on you.

I like Christmas. I miss having even the small chance of getting snow though, and I don't really like seeing Santa in tropical attire in every store (just the ones for sale, not the ones that get kids sitting on their laps, although most aren't in the big red suit). But I see people smiling more and I like Christmas music, so shopping is a little more enjoyable. I like giving gifts to my family too.

I don't really care what it's called, but I think it's ridiculous to change the names of holidays just because someone else feels it's politically uncorrect. Who cares what it's called? You don't have to celebrate it as the birth of Christ if you don't want to, and you can even call it something else too. But other people will still call it Christmas even if the name gets officially changed, so just accept it. It's not really something to get mad about. I just smile politely at anyone who gets upset with either the holiday name or those that insist that the holiday should be celebrated only a certain way.

So, Mele Kalikimaka to all.

well - I think my atheist brethren do get a little pushy this time of year.

It's not like our heads are going to explode coming upon a Nativity scene in the Town Square - but they sure do act like it some times.

So consider this my preemptive apology. For me, it isn't the nativity scene, it is the wasteful government spending. ;)

Christians really have their work cut out for them. First they have to reclaim the word "marriage," now they have to reclaim "holiday."

Any more work we can make for them?

We have to look busy because Jesus is coming.

I don't give a damn about the nativity scene, I care because it's a waste of tax money and because public land is supposed to represent the people, not special interests. Private individuals can put their own displays on their own property any time they want and more power to them. When you're talking about a public display on public property paid for by public money though, that's not acceptable.

What about those cases where the materials and time have been donated?

If a majority can decide the size that basement windows have to be in your community, the majority can decide to put Jesus on public property.

The hypocrisy of this position is hilarious.

Look - I agree. but come frigging on. The amount of money a community spends to decorate the Town Square is chicken feed in the grand scheme of things.

lol... Just to be sure you're sure cause otherwise I'm not..? A "grandmal" is a type of seizure... My spelling was a slight off... Flashing/blinking lights can sometimes induce these episodes in people who suffer this condition.

Grand mal.
As in "very bad".
As opposed to petit mal, which is just a little bit bad.

That's friggin' hilarious, a "grandma".
