I remember it not as a low point, but as a high point. Enemies of our government failed in their bid to stop our government from operating. After storming The Capitol, threatening to kill the Vice President, going through sensitive documents, injuring police, they still failed.

It illuminated the ugliness of the modern American right for the entire world to see.

The politicians who spent months riling up the mob for their personal benefit and then pointed them at the Capitol.

The "leaders" who decried what took place, only to backtrack in the ensuing months to the point they now want to pretend it was no big deal.

The many Republicans who refused to wear masks while in safe rooms with colleagues suffering from medical issues, who later came down with Covid.

The conservative pundits who were sending panicked messages to the White House and Congressional Republicans making it clear they knew how serious this was, only to also take to the airwaves and send very different messages to their fans.

The fact that so few Republicans were willing to hold Trump accountable for his actions both that day and in the months leading up to it.

The 140 officers who were injured, some permanently maimed, by folks who probably like to post images of thin blue line flags on social media.

Look at the replies on this very thread, they may have failed on that day, but the movement is still going, and the danger to the republic is real. Hell they have the #1 cable "news" channel still leading the attack.

I remember it as a good example of crowd psychology. A large portion of those involved never imagined they would do that, and yet they did, swept up with the crowd, and probably manipulated by a few.

I remember it was a riot. it was not an insurrection - per the FBI no prior coordination

As half a day of violent Trumpists rioting at the US Capitol resulting in over 700 arrests. How do you remember the numerous BLM and/or Antifa inspired ‘mostly peaceful’ riots?

Q. How do you remember 1/6?
A. as something that was not too surprising and actually inevitable,... this is because if one actually looked at TRUMPS business history it is basically a red flag warning

since the red flag warning was ignored by zealots who have perverted religious beliefs,... this is why I was not too surprised a mob tried to over turn the election results

I remember it as the day a conman named Trump convinced hundreds of morons that he actually won the election he lost. I remember it as the day anti-American assholes stormed the Capitol Building carrying the flags of Confederate traitors. I remember the day those pieces of shit were screaming to hang our Vice President for doing his Constitutionally required duty. I remember it as the day I realized how disgusting Trump Fan Nation is.

I mostly remember finding out from my wife. I was busy at work that day and had only been following the news casually. I got a text along the lines of, "did you see what is going on in Washington?" I sent back something like, "yeah, Tweety is yelling lies at his duped cult again." Then she told me no, they were actually storming congress now. I took a break to check the news, and sure enough. I streamed audio of the insurrection coverage for the rest of the day. It made me feel depressed and pissed off. At the time, I looked at it more as a shitty event than as a symptom of a greater rot, and I was a bit annoyed that the worst COVIDiots would be spreading the shit when they returned to wherever they came from. Now I see it as part of something even worse.

its a mixed bag for me

started as a protest
some of the protesters turned into an extremely violent riot and tried an insurrection (low point)
Police were attacked, beat, maced, assaulted and had things thrown at them (low point)
the capitol building was stormed and also violently attacked (low point)
then the capital was breached and it was vandalized and looted (low point)
more officers were attacked inside (low point)
then the insurrectionist came across an interior barricade between them and where congress was (low point)
that barricade was also attacked and breached (low point)
then BLAMO!!!! the first moron qanon nutter insurrectionist that breached got herself justifiably killed by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrdthe who became a hero that day, god bless you sir (low point and high point)

insurrection failed and trickled to an end after that (high point)

the lows are that there are so many vile human beings that are that stupid or capable of being brainwashed and acting batshit insane who hate america and democracy
the lows that in this great country, in 2021 our own "citizens" actually attacked the capitol . . . .and the world witnessed that
the lows that our democracy was damaged, still is and will take some time to repair because fo those nutters

the highs, they lost and democracy won overall

Democracy (in the form of certifying the EC vote) was put on hold for a few hours of rioting, but prevailed soon after.

Democrats must keep Jan 6th in the news because even despite winning the presidency, and controlling both houses of congress, they have done NOTHING for America in the last year.

I remember Jan 6 as perhaps the single most extreme example of someone putting their personal interests above the nation's laws and above the safety of others. If Trump felt the Nov election contained fraud he had every right to challenge the results, which he did. But when every single investigation proved an absence of material fraud, his argument became the fraud and still he persisted. His continued charge of a "stolen election" is what led to the charge on the Capitol, and there's no getting around that reality.

FWIW, I see this as little different than those left-wing elected officials who continue to cling to the ethos behind the "Defund" movement with their anti-law enforcement rhetoric. With the evidence of harm now manifest from the nation's spiking urban homicide rates, their populist social justice rants remain every bit as harmful as Trump's lies about the election.

Words matter, and the words that come from our political leaders matter even more.

I am inclined to agree.
One point about the manipulated aspect of this.

Probably?
Ray Epps inciting breaching Capitol Security Barrier

I think highly probable. Why isn’t the 1/6 House Select Committee on 1/6 subpoena this guy?

Now, let's tell the story of Ray Epp's journey through the 1/6 universe. Epps's Actions On January 5. We will now review a series of clips which run from approximately 10:30 p.m.- midnight on the evening of January 5. The scenes depicted in the following clips all occurred in the newly named Black Lives Matter Plaza at 16th St NW in DC ...
The conservative independent investigative site, Revolver.news reported Monday on a House hearing Thursday in which, "Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) questioned AG Merrick Garland about a mysterious man, Ray Epps, instructing protesters to enter the US Capitol building on January 5, and who later shepherded crowds towards the Capitol on January 6." Rep. Massie, played video and, of course ...
EXCLUSIVE: 1/6 Defense Attorney To Subpoena FBI Over Ray Epps, Instigators Caught On Video EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Mysterious Man Urged Crowd To 'Storm The Capitol' Before Trump Spoke On January 6 CDC Data Shows Suicide, Overdose, Flu All Kill More Children Than COVID-19

We can only hope this subpoena is permitted to be brought by the defense.

I remember it as the day the special forces in black helicopters came close to making it a very bad day for the insurrectionist scum.

something every one should keep in mind about 1/6/2021 (and politics in general)

what happened and continues to happen just didn't happen suddenly, the reality is political leadership AND their enablers (i.e. partisan supporters on both sides of the political aisle) have basically acted like fifth graders (not mature intelligent adults)

Heard about it all after the fact. Was out and about with my son that day and didn't even know what had happened until that evening when I got home.

It was a riot against a government action to prevent the new president from taking office. Oh, snap, that means it was an insurrection.
