fun fact:

In Germany the great majority pronounces "curry" the American way.
I belong to a small minority who pronounces it the British and the Indian way.

:)
Ok, here's a related one for you. Bury, is it ber-ee or burr-ee?

Right now I am a minority of 16,7 % :)

I say hurry like curry - both with an u as in butter.

And where are our British members with their Union Jacks?
Can somebody call them?

I am sure they will say hurry and curry like me.

There is only one way: KER-ree.

KER-ree is a girls name - like "Kerry."

How to pronounce BUTTER in British English

Mmmnnn.... no.

Bury, is it ber-ee or burr-ee?

Ber-ee is one of those military caps you wear on your head with a silent "t"

Bury - or me is "Buh-ree"

I say hurry like curry - both with an u as in butter.

Mmmmnnn... no..
Hurry and Curry are pronounced the same across most of England but butter is one of those words people fight over depending on where in the UK you are from. Bath and path are two more words people will argue endlessly over.

My daughter and my partner were born here in the North so they say "bootta"

I say "bu-tah" but further south you might hear "buh-tah."

- a different sound?

Curd is like a long "u" - it's almost "Kueerrd"

Actually, there's a little widget in Google searches when you type in "how do you pronounce" and then the word.

You get a little face, the word and then you press the speaker icon and it's fairly accurate.

I typed in: how do you pronounce curry - and they made a difference between British and American

That's buh-ray. I'm a 'berry' bury.

The google search "how do you pronounce bury" is very accurate for the British and they have it "beh-ree"

The letters are unimportant - the pronunciation is pretty good when it does the British version. You can also slide it to American pronunciation.

they made a difference between British and American

That's the one! It explains why there are 7 or so who chose option one (if you get it to pronounce "curry") and I chose "other."

I did not want to make it too complicated.
Just 2 main possibilities - and one "other" for all other cases.

How do you pronounce the word curry?

with ɝ - ?
with ʌ - ?

with ɝ - ?
with ʌ - ?
and then added: tertium non datur! = there is no third option possible!

Well, just to curry favor with you, I will agree. ;):giggle:(y)
That is fine and very polite of you! :)

But my aim here is not that you agree with me out of politeness. :)
My aim is to hear the truth, the full truth, and nothing but the truth! :)

Paul Hollywood taught us well.
Hahaha!

getting a Liverpudlian to teach Americans how to pronounce words seems like a great way to overturn the US civilisation. It would be (guessing) like getting some hillbilly chef to teach Brits how to say ordinary American words.

That now makes me think - were is the most parochial American accent from?

I did not want to make it too complicated.
Just 2 main possibilities - and one "other" for all other cases.

I wasn't criticising - however most Brits would have gone with "other" for the pronunciation option.

Btw: my percentage is now down from a minority of 16,7 % to a minority of 9,1 %

I had hoped for some British help and assistance to raise my percentage a bit. :)
