How come the Thoughts and Prayers aren't working?

It's almost as if it's an empty platitude. The subtext of thoughts and prayers is: "We aren't going to do anything about this problem and we anticipate another mass shooting in the near future."

I would restrict people's access to guns, I wouldn't ban them.

But, I'm more insulted by the Republican candidates for Governor and their lack of response. They are running with their tails between their legs and they cancelled events in Jacksonville because they were deathly afraid of fielding questions about the Madden shooting.. because they know they basically have an indefensible position. We are going to do nothing.
 
I'm more curious about why the tens of thousands of gun laws we already have dont seem to be doing anything. How many thousands more so we need to get to the right number?
 
It's almost as if prayer is meaningless, there's nobody listening and it's incumbent on us humans to fix our own problems.

Doing nothing is always preferable to doing something that has been proven not to work, infringes upon our rights, doesn't stop criminals and only hinder's the law abiding.

People who want to "do something" even if its a bad idea are the problem.

Pretty much sums up the Republican Party platform: thoughts and prayers for the little people; Giant government handouts to the wealthy.

I am all for harsher punishment for those who break the law. I don't support laws that punish everyone in the hopes it could possibly maybe do something as you support.

I think you misunderstand the purpose of "thoughts and prayers". Such statements are expressions of sympathy.

sympathy (sĭmˈpə-thē)►
n. A relationship or an affinity between people or things in which whatever affects one correspondingly affects the other.
n. Mutual understanding or affection arising from this relationship or affinity.
n. The act or power of sharing the feelings of another.

There are still a few of us who feel that a very appropriate response to a tragedy is sympathy. Sympathy is intended to be a comfort to the victims.

Of course, there are others who think that a tragedy is merely an opportunity to gen up some political outrage. Which one are you?

I can agree with that...if you can agree that "no guns" will never be a reality in a country where there are ~300,000,000 already in circulation, and an existing constitutional right to have them.
