Offshore financial industry leak exposes identities of 1,000s of holders of anonymous wealth from around the world...
The leak of 2m emails and other documents, mainly from the offshore haven of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), has the potential to cause a seismic shock worldwide to the booming offshore trade, with a former chief economist at McKinsey estimating that wealthy individuals may have as much as $32tn (£21tn) stashed in overseas havens.

So, how does $32 trillion sound to you? :o

I'll just take my 5% and go now. :)

I'm shocked, I mean truly astounded. I can't imagine why anyone would want to put their money in an 'untraceable', non taxable account in another country. Why would anyone do that?!?!?

Dictators always have a few billion dollar slush fund so that Tiger Woods will still play golf with them after they leave the White House........

Me thinks if they wanted to hide 32 trillion in such a way no one could find it, then they could.

Oh, I got it - that's why it's hidden away.
I should have known. ;)

I'm assuming that was a dig at the President, though it's kind of odd considering his name was not listed on the leaked list. Not invalidating your statement, just sayin', doesn't really make sense in the context of this topic.

If it is their money, it does not matter why they have it there just so long as it is legal. If it is not their money or was obtained illegally or is being held there illegally, then you have a right to judge those people --otherwise it really isn't any of our business. Rich people have rights too, including the right to privacy, at least on this side of the pond.

Well yeah, why would we assume anything underhanded....? I can't imagine why else someone would want to conceal where they got their money...

Ahhhh, I get you. My first post was entirely sarcastic. I thought that came through, but I guess not.

And it should be " confiscated" right ? Well, just half.

Because the leftist policies of Govts all over the world have used up all the money the can squeeze out of their ctizens and borrowing is tanking the monetary systems by devaluing currencies the world over.

The next thing for the liberal socialist criminals is ofcourse, theft.

We put bullet holes in thiefs where I come from.

You have to hide money these days, else the government will take it under the guise of "fair share" or "patriotic duty."

It's there money they can keep it in their ass doesn't change the fact that its theirs

Because of people like you who think they have a right to it.

As long as they aren't breaking any laws, why the hell WOULDN'T wealthy people keep their money where the government can't get it? I know I would if I were wealthy. They'd be called morons if they didn't.

Sounds like inflation, if it ever makes its way out of those stashes and into circulation.

Lol, yeah, I guess. I'd be interested to know in what currency those are.

But this is so unpatriotic.

From dictators to drug dealers to super rich to governments, many reasons to hide money away. However, such banking countries also turn more on the world economy than the economy of a single nation and is more difficult to seize, to it is not hard to understand.

As for "hiding' it, do you wear a sign on you telling how much money you have in your wallet, purse or bank? It would be foolish for super rich to not hide their money - and the super rich tend to be particularly NOT foolish about money.
