Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...[W:274]

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

You all's justification for the mayor of Houston telling people to not evacuate is really piss poor

Not really. Evacuations take time, clog roadways, and make it generally a risk for many many people. You need advanced warning and you need to know the level of the storm. Evacuations are not minor affairs.

The crowd is not the sum of its parts.

I am a republican who did not vote for Trump (Or Hillary).

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

As a Houstonian Ive been trying to find some silver lining to this disaster thats all ready reached near biblical proportions and this is all I can come up with. In Houston and its surrounding areas and Counties we have truly become a unified people

There are no Democrats or Republicans, no Conservatives or Liberals or Alt-Right or Alt- Left. There are just people in need and people willing to help those in need regarldess of race, gender, religion or political persuation.

And let me say this, a lot of your life exist in the first 6" of your home, it just takes a flood to make you realize it

These types of events should make you folks more cognizant of what you do to destroy countries and hundreds of millions of lives around the world. Like Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, ... .

My condolences

For the most part the armchair quarterbacks that are still trying to make this partisan aren't helping

funny how people change when it effects them directly

 A troll ? Imagine that

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

Hurricane season is. Cities along that coast know. We all do.

40 inches or more of rain in less than a week is not a routine weather event anywhere on earth.

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

A cowardly American. Imagine that.

You folks talk on endlessly about these events, whining and whinging, mouthing all the usual US propagandist memes about coming together, blah blah blah but you care nothing for others, for what you do, have done, always do to others.

Things which make this event look like a pool party.

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

Gee, a rabid conservative. Whoda ever thunk such a thing in the US of A.

And you folks are such uneducated clods.

Yet, we own and run everything in the world. Imagine that.

Sounds like a prepared Trump speech but he will no doubt tweet to make up for it

Rescues during during a storm are even more complex. Staying harms way isn't the best option. I'm blown away how that notion has come to life.

Southeast Texas knew about Harvey for nearly a week before landfall. It didn't sneak up on them.

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

Which is it?

Climate and weather aren't the same thing, you tell us. Until there's a significant weather event, then you blame it on global warming.

Galveston was hit by a hurricane in 1900, which was the deadliest natural disaster in US history. 10,000 people died, and there wasn't an SUV in sight.

This is the first bad hurricane in a looooooonnnnng time.

Katrina was called a 100 yr Storm.
Sandy was called a 100 yr Storm.
Now Harvey is a 500 yr Storm.

They were all in the last twelve years.

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

It's certainly cheap, isn't it?

Yes it is, callous and reflecting the worst of human nature...

However, as I write this, the CBC is running live interviews with reporters and spectators at the scene, all of them talking about acts of bravery, people being plucked from their homes at the last second by total strangers. One has told of a man who knew an elderly couple stranded in their home, and when a helicopter lift failed, he walked through waist deep water and carried them out one at a time.

So for every moron there are always a few hundred with real souls.

Considering the last two weeks I would call that a perfect blessing.

Reported on CBC Canada, the city leaders noted the great loss of life and clogging of roadways in Katrina, how the log jam of cars hampered rescue efforts. They chose to leave everyone in place and put resources into rescues and medical emergencies.

And 10 dead is pretty dang low a number given....I dont know that they were wrong.

On the other hand it takes tragedy to get there anymore, and it will not last, so...you know...

That's exactly right. People have dragged their boats to places less affected than their own to help out, and some great relief efforts have already been organized by neighbors and strangers.

https://www.dhs.gov/news/2017/03/16...et-amendment-and-2018-budget-requests-advance

Btw, here's Trump's budget amendment released March 2017 - making cuts to FEMA and flood insurance to free up funds for the border wall.

Provides a further investment of $2.6 billion for high priority tactical infrastructure and border security technology, including funding to continue planning, designing, and constructing a border wall.

Restructures user fees for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to ensure that the cost of government services is not subsidized by taxpayers who do not directly benefit from those programs.

Reduces Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administered grants, saving $667 million; additionally the budget proposes establishing a 25% non-federal cost match for FEMA preparedness grants that do not currently require a non-federal match.

Does anyone remember a while ago when some of us claimed that a Trump presidency would leave people hurt? Cos I do.

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

My question, Got links?, had to do with the part I highlighted...obviously...which was your statement:

"Things which make this event look like a pool party."

And the best you can do is respond with "Trump has got nothing you folks ain't got."...thin, hell, flat
