With several more days of rain expected.

HOUSTON — Rescuers were answering thousands of calls from people trapped in Houston early Sunday, officials said, as torrential rain from deadly Hurricane Harvey caused “catastrophic flooding” in the city and across southeast Texas.

"This event is unprecedented & all impacts are unknown & beyond anything experienced," the National Weather Service (NWS) said Sunday morning.

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

Wow!. Considering Houston is one of the five largest cities in the US, this is a disaster of immense proportions.

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

We can pull off 7 bogus endless wars of occupation and a $611B (of what the public can see) military budget, but we cannot prepare for routine seasonal weather events. Ah well, as Don tweeted, "good luck!"

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

It's been crazy as far away as 180 miles north and east of the coastline hit the hardest, which is Rock Port and Corpus Christi areas. We're between Austin and San Antonio. Rain and wind has sustained for 20 hours plus and we've had 10 inches of rain yesterday and reports say we can expect the same today. Winds vary between fairly steady at 25 and 40 mph gust. If this stalls for days more. Not gonna be good for a lot of people on the coast and even south central texas folks.

Houston is almost at sea level. It doesn't take much to flood Houston. Oddly, San Antonio is easy to flood.

Anyway, I really hope this thing doesn't stall for much longer.

If only we had the technology to get all that unneeded water from there to northern British Columbia where we have wildfires with a combined area slightly less than the State of Delaware..

Prayers to those without homes and no more injuries.

This is not a routine seasonal weather event - which is precisely why it is news.

Hurricane season is. Cities along that coast know. We all do.

Man, sorry to hear that. Please stay safe, and follow the advice of authorities.

Unfortunately, as of yesterday, they were predicting this thing was going to be stalled well into next week. :(

I'm up here in Nacogdoches for college. We've gotten a whole bunch of rain. It's crazy. But there isn't any major flooding so that's good. Classes may be cancelled tomorrow if the rain gets worse. I'll have to see.

Back home though, the street in front of my house is now a river; it's like knee high. I'm glad my parents made it back before it got to bad. Apparently they were able to get back home quicker, because absolutely nobody was on the road.

I'm worried about my aunt in Corpus the most, though. I haven't heard from her since it hit, so I'm scared something happened to her. My parents and a whole bunch of my friends have been taking cover, as there have been like tornado warnings happening every 10-15 minutes.

Stay safe, RM!

Biggest hurricane in 12 years, biggest in Texas in 40 years, not exactly routine

It's a beautiful campus. And Bossier City's not too far either. ;)

Yeah, I heard it's pretty bad inland too. I have two sister in-laws who live in San Antonio. Both called my wife to say they are OK, but struggling to stay that way. Fears are the usual: flooding, loss of power, water, sewage, etc.

Hang tight. And, I hope you and your family are safe.

Cat 4, direct hit on one of the nation's largest metropolitan regions. Yeah. Big stuff.

Texans should have moved to California

Re: Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ ...

I've been looking at a young relative's FB page, and some of the pics are amazing--water right up to the traffic lights, cars entirely submerged.... Water's already in the Dickinson houses. Kerrville's not so bad...yet, but the danger there includes rockslides and mudslides.

Take a look at the sinkhole in Rosenberg: Sinkhole opens up in Rosenberg after Harvey flooding | khou.com

There is a time and a place for everything. Perhaps you struggle with empathy, but there are many of us in danger and who have loved ones in danger too. If you can't be empathetic, try being decent, why don't you?

I lived in Nacanowhere for a decade. Fun town.

Governess, be careful, but go down to the parking lot on the back side (east side) of the football stadium and take the LaNana walking trail. The creek may become as deep as 12 feet as it was 100 years ago.

Hurricane Harvey is routine to you? This is the worst weather event in Texas since Hurricane Carla in 1961 - so in other words, the worst weather event that many of these victims have ever seen in their lives.

And here I thought it was called "'Douches." ;)

I'm hoping that the rain will stop even if it's just for a little while so that the waters will recede a bit. Rain's supposed to continue through Wednesday at least, and if so, this truly will be catastrophic for many.
