House votes to pass debt ceiling bill in win for McCarthy

"Give us something we want to or we will cause harm to millions of people" doesn't count as an act of terrorism?
That’s not what’s happening. I know you thrive on hyperbole, but you should really give it a rest.

Defaulting on our debt will harm millions of people. That's not hyperbole.

Yes it is.

So if defaulting on the debt is harmless, why should anyone pay attention to the GOP's refusal to raise the debt limit?

Not too worried. Biden is just playing chicken. He'll keep speeding in the opposite lane and swerve just in time.

Republicans are the ones making demands in exchange for not harming you.

Where I come from, we call that taking hostages.

House passed the bill raising the debt ceiling limit. If there is default, it's one Schumer and Biden.

Yes that is where the hostage takers wrote down their demands.

If hostage takers shoot a hostage, do you blame the negotiator for not giving them what they asked for?

Your leader asked for their demands They called his bluff. Balls in the demented ****stick's hands now.

Yes, your leaders have taken hostages and made their demands.

Nope The demented ****stick ran up the debt and asked for the Repub's plan to fix it. They called his bluff.

That is not even close to what is happening. Right wingers lie about everything.

The fix is to raise the debt ceiling.

Don't need a bill

They need to raise the debt ceiling

They all know it. Just playing it for political gain.

In the end, like always, they will raise the debt ceiling. Just hope they don't do too much damage before they do the inevitable.

It would be a huge plus for both McCarthy and for Biden if they passed it in the Senate and Biden signed it. I ran across an opinion piece in my newsfeed the other day that said just that and I found myself nodding in agreement. Biden claims he wants to work across the aisle but expecting the GOP to work with him and then refusing to work with them is not showing the voters he is sincere.

This is a good, logical, and moderate offer the GOP has crafted, worked hard on, and passed. As McCarthy pointed out after the vote, it's the only debt ceiling increase on the table right now. Voters are worried about the debt and polls reflect that. The proposals in this moderate bill are proposals widely supported by voters. If Biden were to put his partisanship aside and work to and agree to pass something like this bill, he'd be as much of a hero as McCarthy is for getting it passed in the House.

Do I think that's how Biden will respond to this House passed bill, thus making him look like a work across the aisle president? No, I don't. We'll soon see. The Republicans have made a good, moderate, and well considered starting offer.
I've never seen people just miss the boat.
The bill is doa.its mostly a messaging bill that he knew wouldn't get past the senate so he threw things in there to get it passed in the house.

I thought there was a chance. It's a great accomplishment for McCarthy. I couldn't stand McCarthy before he became Speaker and I'm almost shocked at how he's turned my opinion around. He's working very hard and he's passing some excellent bills.
He's passing messaging bills designed to do exactly this.

It's amazing how gullible people are.

In ADDITION to sending a message, McCarthy and the GOP led house have laid down a marker. A reference point for the coming negotiations.
