Re: Eric Cantor is Gone
Centrist upset at a Republican for standing in the way of the Obama demands. Amusing.
Once again, your assumptions stand in the way good vision. On the one hand, you are so blinded by right wing extremism that you can't see Cantor being gone as a good thing for the ENTIRE country -- not just right wing extremists. On the other hand, your hate for Obama, is palpable and misguided that you fail to give him credit for anything good that he's done over his tenure as president. Being blind on both counts is not "amusing," it is quite sad in fact.
Cantors loss is just the thing the Tea Party needed to get traction going in Va. I'm very happy to see this.
Extremism is the Tea Party banner. Find me a Tea Party member who knows truly cares about ALL Americans and I will show you an earth like planet in the habitable zone capable of supporting human life. You are not searching for the needle in the haystack, you are searching for the haystack itself. No extreme version of American life will ever pass the test of time, MrViccio.
Is this where the Republican Party is headed in 2016?
I told this forum back in 2000, that the republican party has just destroyed itself long-term and that it would fracture - this was before the emergence of the Tea Party. I have another thread where I said that if republicans failed to find their way to the middle of the road, that they would not see the White House again until 2024. They then lost the 2008 and 2012 presidential election. They are about to lose the 2016 presidential election cycle and the party has yet to heal itself by "leaning" towards the middle of the road, where most responsible American Citizens reside.
Why am I so hard on republicans?
The had 20 of the past 34 years to set this nation on good footing and failed to do so. Period.
If you take a look at where this country has fallen down since the election of Bush 41, we've had nothing but perpetual wars for oil, a declining middle class (excepting the Clinton years where wages and middle class growth was actually in recovery), outsourcing of middle class jobs, the destruction of our manufacturing base, the exodus of corporate capital, the flight of foreign capital, a perpetually unstable dollar, an inherently unstable economic base, a new wave of increasing poverty (which began in earnest with Reagan), rising consumer prices, increased deficit spending, a degradation of public services and a ballistic rise in national debt (now approaching some $17 trillion). 20 years of trickle down failure, increasing corporate protections galore, neocon wars fought for oil that we did not own with millions of lives lost in the process and a busted economy as the proverbial cherry on top to show for it.
So, I'm only paying homage where homage is due. I'm calling a spade a spade. When you occupy the White House for 58.823% of the time since 1980, and we STILL don't have our act together, then I'm going to call your party on the carpet for it in the aggregate. Both Democrat Presidents were coming off the heels of a completely mismanaged domestic scene and both Democratic Presidents found a way to right the ship. The economy was stagnant at best when Clinton took office and eventually saw the largest economic improvement in world history - not just American history - which included a projected multi-hundred billion dollar surplus that was immediately spend down the toilet with the election of Bush 43. The economy was the absolute worst it had ever been since 1929/32 when Obama took office and eventually (slowly) it saw a recovery with rising employment (though no where near where it should be). However, this president had the honor of cleaning up the mess left behind by yet again, another failed republican president (two wars, a housing market in full implosion mode, skyrocketing foreclosures and an economic tsunami globally).
So, please forgive me for calling a spade a spade and laying blame where blame actually resides. Republicans have been at Executive helm longer. They've had periodic majorities in congress over the same time period. They had the political winds at their back and what did they do with it? They allowed Neoconservative infiltration that lead the nation straight into its "New Pearl Harbor," September 11th, 2001. We've been in FULL recovery mode ever since - struggling to be the nation that we should have been a very long time ago.
THAT is why I come down so hard on the republican party. To whom much is given, much is expected.

THAT is probably the absolutely truth of the matter at this point - like it or not. The reasoning for the B- on Executive for Democrats is that no one can deny the economic boom during the Clinton years. Many socioeconomic boats were lifted (if you wanted to lift it) during that cycle. I remember when Silicone Valley could not fill all the jobs they had, literally. I remember seeing empty office space, offices and floor space just waiting for employees to be hired but not enough candidates to fill all the positions. I was in some of those offices at the time and saw how bizarre it looked and how hopeful the leaders of companies were about filling its empty floor space.
During Obama's tenure, he faced enormous challenges on day one - unlike any president since FDR. Wars. Economic Armageddon at Home. Global Economic Crisis. A Government many people felt had lost completely control. The entire world sat on his shoulders for the first 2 years of his presidency and the entire world watched his every move. It was as epic display of leadership in a time of serious crisis, if the real truth be told. So, I score the Democrats higher on Executive leadership. Republicans would have scored higher for Reagan's work with Gorbachev in Eastern Europe, were it not for Bush 41's and Bush 43's epic failures in giving us wars for oil and setting the stage for 911 (most importantly) by acquiescing to neocon debauchery.
