Why didn’t Pelosi get this done? Plus the capital is back open for tours.

House Republicans have introduced a bill that would command legions of federal employees to stop teleworking and return to the office.

The Stopping Home Office Work’s Unproductive Problems Act — or “SHOW UP Act” — was introduced by Kentucky Rep. James Comer, who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.

"Americans have suffered from the federal government’s detrimental pandemic-era telework policies for federal bureaucrats," said Comer. "President Biden’s unnecessary expansion of telework crippled the ability of departments and agencies to fulfill their responsibilities and created cumbersome backlogs."

How much less productive are teleworkers, then?

Being able to care for children while working seems to me an advantage which would excuse a slight loss of productivity. If it's a greater lack, then maybe we could address it with lower wages for working from home.

Many companies find that employees actually end up more productive. Which is exactly why Republicans would want to shut that down. Can't have a government run efficiently, not on their watch.

a paradigm shift resulted when my agency moved toward telework in '93. previously, it was 'if i see the employee is busy, they are doing their job'. it then moved to 'if the employee accomplishes what is expected during a designated span of time, then they are doing their job'

out of the gate, there was significantly more (per capita) interest among managers to move to telework than the bargaining unit employees who reported to them

30 years later, the GQP has the solution for a problem that does not exist ... no grass growin' under their feet!

Rep. Comer northwest KY is a rising star.
He’s working with Jordan on investigating also.

Comer needs to focus more on providing constituent services to his extremely poor CD.

Depends on the job. Many federal workers probably don't need to be in the office. In fact in many cases it would be better if they weren't living in DC at all.

that was part of the rational for william jefferson clinton signing a federal telework executive order in '93

Putting all of those vehicles back on the road will reinstate air pollution plus wear and tear on vehicles, roads and rail.

Good.

If those government workers want to **** off, make them **** off where they can be seen ****ing off.

Next...reduce the size of the government work force. Fire the **** offs.

Do that now. Let them get used to being required to actually do some work. And, after the 2024 election, there will be less deep state **** offs for Trump to fire.

Ah, the gop at work creating problems that didn't exist. Good job.

Unfortunately we cannot fire the entire gop house. Sad.

People who are against telework, generally don't have any idea what they are talking about.

Any loss in productivity would have to be higher than the cost of keeping an office building open, and the power required to have it open.

People who are in the office aren't working 8 full hours a day either in most cases.

Probably a lot of their jobs are useless anyway. I would rather them say home and save the roads. Better they were fired though. 1

This can't be right, @redbeer told me the GOP wasn't addressing inflation, crime, gas prices, etc. because Democrats are still in charge in the Senate and WH. Surely they wouldn't be working on any other bills that surely wouldn't pass either, amirite?

The OP apparently thinks this is some kind of “win”…. The reality is it will never become law..
Unless the GOP flips a very favorable Senate map for them and the potus while keeping the House in 2024. Such as the start of 2017.

The pandemic proved that teleworking actually works quite well and gives workers a lot of flexibility. The push to get people back into the office is stupid and driven by nothing more than managerial incompetence and a desire for social control over employees. Less talented workers who work for less productive companies will unfortunately be forced back into the office, forced to waste time and their personal expense commuting, forced to manage childcare, knowing it's bullshit. Less talented workers will have to put up with it, but it's going to drive talented people away from employers that stubbornly insist on in-person work and it's going to drive them into the hands of organizations that are more flexible and trusting of their workforce. Some workers may actually decide not to work at all, thereby keeping the job market tight, which will drive up the labor costs for employers. Pretty ****ing stupid if you ask me, but this is what brilliant corporate American minds get paid gazillions of dollars for.

Lmao. Like Trump is a totally going to run. Geez...😁
That said, I truly hope that he does. Nothing could ensure a Democratic win more than Trump as the Republican nominee.

They have no ability to govern or fix existing problems. As such, they have to create new ones in order to look like they are actually doing something.

This not pleasant and can be avoided = leave teleworkers alone they are saving taxpayers some dough!!!
