House approves Charlie Kirk resolution on bipartisan vote

Just a few months ago, lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were assassinated in their homes for being Democrats. Another Democratic lawmaker was injured. The suspect had a list of other politicians who supported abortion rights. Various political figures decried the violence. On the political board I waste time on, both right and left condemned the killing. It was mostly as it should be, though Trump refused to fly flags at half mast and didn't even bother making a phone call. Some MAGAs said they had it coming for being Democrats, but Democrats did not pretend that view represented *ALL* of MAGA.
Democrats/liberals did not swarm the internet declaring "WE ARE ALL MELISSA NOW!" (MAGAs especially did not) and threatening civil war or make other vague nods to violence. Swarms of them didn't post about how "Republicans did this! The right did this! MAGA did this!". No, they recognized that it was just one lone evil person. They didn't promise to use the machinery of government to smash and permanently silence right wing political groups.
All over the internet, countless MAGAs are saying "WE ARE ALL CHARLIE!", casting blame on the entirety of the left / all Democrats, threatening civil war, making vague statements that threaten conflict, demanding that people be canceled if they do so much as point out that Kirk himself said that America's massive gun violence is a price he's willing to pay, and the MAGA leader himself is promising to use government to crush any groups he considers liberal.

That's what's important, @Lutherf, not this performative bullshit.

But then... there's no tragedy MAGA will go unraped. Hell, YOU don't even care about Kirk yourself. You just use him as an excuse to post hateful swill like this:

Left wing politics is all hate all day every day. When they can't find hate directly they make it up in their own heads and hate that. They are incapable of basic human decency because absolutely everything in their hearts and minds revolves around validating their hatred.

Facts don't matter to them. Objective reality doesn't matter to them. The ONLY thing that matters to any of them is that they continue to wake up every morning finding a new reason to hate the people that don't think like they do.

So ****ing stupid. This will help average Americans how?

The poison pill lionizing Kirk, thereby inevitably eliciting some dissent, is a wonderful gift. It lets MAGAs around the country make threads like this one and feel morally superior, even as they cheer things like brown children getting caught in Abbott's razorwire and drowning in the Rio.

Like this thread from @Lutherf, in which he says the same shit he's been saying since I got here while pretending he's only just saying it now because some Democrats didn't want to sign a resolution lionizing Kirk.

I get that you’re angry about how some Democrats responded to the resolution, and I’m not dismissing your stance. But when you say “all” Democrats are driven by hate, doesn’t that kind of blanket statement just deepen the divide? What specific actions or policies are you reacting to beyond the responses to this resolution?

Bipartisan support for Charlie Kirk! Yay! We're awesome!!!
The Resolution also “calls upon all Americans — regardless of race, party affiliation, or creed — to.... uphold American values...."

How come Trump gets to shit on American values, and how come his supporters cheer when he does?

The Resolution is pretty ironic in "honoring" Kirk since many of his positions were also anti-American values.

More confessions hidden in accusations from you people.
Point that moral compass back right back at "you people".
This thread was started for the sole purpose of "finding a new reason to hate the people that don't think" like you do.

You voted for Biden and you're wagging your finger at the O/P, really?

Complete and utter bullshit.

The resolution to condemn the murder of Hortman and zero, repeat ZERO votes against.

The resolution to condemn the murder of Charlie Kirk has 58 DEMOCRATS vote against it and another 50+ who were too cowardly to vote either way.

Democrats are supporting political violence from the left by not condemning it.

...The ceremonial measure, introduced by Speaker Mike Johnson, condemns the murder and praises Kirk as a “courageous American patriot ... who boldly lived out his faith with conviction, courage, and compassion.” It also “calls upon all Americans — regardless of race, party affiliation, or creed — to reject political violence, recommit to respectful debate, uphold American values, and respect one another as fellow Americans.”...

I don't see anything substantive to oppose here.

🤷‍♂️
Besides tying it to a bitter racist Christian Nationalists by putting Kirk's name on it and the part about him isn't true?

Had they actually made this resolution without mentioning him, trying to make claims about him, this would have been a good Resolution. Instead, the right brought in politics, made it divisive.

And that's a fact.

Yeah, well, what else is new this beautiful Friday morning?

Left wing politics is all hate all day every day.
You seem confused. "Left wing politics" supports diversity, for example. But diversity is, like, number one on the MAGA hate list. You ain't fooling nobody.

Yeah, keep hurling those ugly labels. It's doing so much to add to the quality of civil discussion.

Diversity? Is this what hate is called now by leftists?

Sounds like projection.
Have you ever actually listened to your cult leader?
He needs to listen to himself first. It's quite amusing how he is constantly accusing the left of hate while his rantings smack of hatred of the left.

Zuckerberg said they refused to take several pieces of content down and told Biden's team they wouldn't remove humor. Is it important to you to accurately express what was and wasn't censored? Were there any actions taken by Biden's team beyond unprofessional and overaggressive outreach to Facebook/Meta? Was our government involved in censoring free speech if Zuckerberg and his company had the ability to push back on calls for censorship?

Ironic statement coming from someone who supports a party that wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives EXCEPT whether we are toting devices designed for the purpose of killing one another.

Facts don't matter to them.

Reality called....something about the President applauding himself for stopping a war between a country that doesn't exist and one that isn't at war with anyone currently. Facts indeed.

Objective reality doesn't matter to them.

A 100% increase in the price of a drug is NOT a 1000% decrease in the price of said drug, yet conservatives clapped like sea lions when Trump made his claim nonetheless. You sure you want to get in this pissing match?

The ONLY thing that matters to any of them is that they continue to wake up every morning finding a new reason to hate the people that don't think like they do.

I don't hate you....I don't understand how you are so oblivious to the blatant hypocrisy you have to live your life by in order to support some of the shit you do.

More evidence of a lack of discernment.

Kirk was a confrontational individual whose opinions divided us. Many found his manor to be less open debate than ambush.

He DID NOT deserve to be murdered for any of this. Canonized as a patriot either.

I pray for the day we regain our ability to DISCERN these important things that, in their being missing, make us less intelligent in the choices we are making and their long term effects on our best interests.

Too bad for denialists I fact checked the Meme before I posted. (fackcheck is noted on the meme) Take a better look. The last sentence expresses the same sentiment on the meme posted above. Zuck didn't push back enough against the Biden administration, and censored mostly without question.

"Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (often referred to as "Zuck" in media shorthand) stated in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee that senior officials from the Biden administration, including the White House, repeatedly pressured Facebook (now part of Meta) to censor certain COVID-19-related content during the pandemic. This included humor, satire, and other posts that the administration viewed as misinformation about vaccines and the virus. He described the pressure as lasting for months in 2021, with officials expressing frustration when Meta's teams did not fully comply, and called the interference "wrong." Zuckerberg expressed regret for not pushing back more forcefully at the time and vowed that Meta would resist similar demands in the future."
