Fifty-eight Democrats opposed the resolution; another 38 voted present and 22 didn’t vote at all. (Only three Democrats had failed to vote on the measure taken up immediately prior to the Kirk resolution.)

The Hortman attack isn't important because she is just some leftwing socialist, while Kirk was was the 2nd coming.

I dont understand what about Kirk deserves this type of honour. I am not against him , I just think he is a very successful political operative but what about that deserves special honor? The assassination was horrific but so was the assassination of Hortman. In my view this is just more politicization of his death,

The last part of the resolution was good though.

Aside from the undeserved praise for Kirk, the rest of resolution was acceptable.
