The breakdown of the religious is interesting. There was really no change outside of a couple of percentage points among protestants to include born again Christians between 2024 and 2020 when Biden won. Trump did gain a couple of points from this group from 60% up to 63% this year. But if one is to blame the religious, one needs to blame the Catholics. Biden won Catholics in 2020 52-47 over Trump in 2020, but Trump won the Catholic vote this year 59-39. That a huge turn around as Catholics have been very steady in voting democratic. Clinton won the Catholic vote 50-46, Obama won Catholics in 2012 50-48 and again in 2008, 54-45 in 2008 etc. on back. The question then is what happened to all of a sudden for Catholics to switch their allegiance from voting democratic to voting republican, for Trump?

Perhaps the same reason why Hispanics gave Trump 46% of their vote whereas Trump only received 32% back in 2020 and 28% in 2016. Or perhaps Trump winning the working man’s vote, the blue collar vote this year 51-47 whereas Biden won them 55-44 in 2020. The last time prior to this year a republican presidential candidate won the blue collar, working man’s vote was way back in 1984 in the landslide Reagan win over Mondale. Or perhaps why 13% of blacks voted for Trump this year, the most since 1976 when Gerald Ford received 15% of the black vote. First time voters this year, they also went to Trump 55-44 over Harris. Since 1972 that has happened only 2 other times, 1980 and 1984. Trump’s 45% of the woman’s vote was the most for a republican presidential candidate since G.W. Bush received 48% in 2004.

I think the reason is clear. The fact is the reason doesn’t or didn’t affect just Christians. It was basically across the board among all religious, all races, gender, age groups, etc. etc.
