Dennis Hastert to resign..........

I predicted that, when the Foley story first broke, the Republicans would be kicking Hastert to the curb shortly. It looks like "shortly" has finally arrived. Will this be the start of a domino effect on the GOP, or will the Republicans be able to stem the bleeding with this move? Maybe a little of both, IMHO.

As little as a day ago, Hastert adamantly maintained that he would be going nowhere. Now, a flip-flop out of nowhere turns the tables.

Article is here.

Hastert will probably be gone by the end of the week.

As for the domino effect, I doubt that this scandal will end here. But Hastert will probably be the only person to resign his leadership position. Reynolds strengthened his own position (at least until Election Day) by throwing Hastert under the bus.

Hastert is done. The Seargent Shultz defense isn't playing.
"I know nothing. I see nothing!"

That is true in more ways than one. Bob Crane was a sex pervert, who taped himself having sex with hundreds of women. Shultz saw nothing then either. LOL.

Y'know, add a smart-arse smirk to this guy here.....

And he would look a LOT like Rummy. :rofl

Dan, I wished you hadn't used the remark "...the Republicans would be kicking Hastert to the curb...". you ought to give the GOP the slightest bit of credit for dealing with Hassert as they should! Anyone who hides something like this should have to step down, which is what many of they are asking him to do now. demanding that he step down is not 'kicking him to the curb', as that is more like 'betraying party loyalty' instead of 'doing their job which is expected of them'.

Notice I said above that you should give them the slightest bit of credit...the same reps who came forward to say they told Hassert about this a good while back should be taking more heat for this, too! If THEY knew months ago, why is it just coming out NOW? In the military, if we have/see a problem we go to our immediate supervisor. if they don't take care of the problem, we go to HIS supervisor....wew don't just ignore the problem and try to ease our conscience by saying, "Well, I did ALL I COULD DO by telling THIS guy!"

I would also hate to be ANT politician right now (GOP OR DEM) who had prior knowledge of this going on, because the 'firestorm' (as dean calls it) the Dems are fanning right now will know NO PARTY LINES when the full investigation gets rolling!

but give the GOP calling for Hassert to re-sign a LITTLE credit as 'doing their jobs' instead of as 'betraying party loyalty to save their own butts'.

I will give some of the GOP the kind of credit you are asking for (Alexander, for instance), but I will not give it to some others, who appear to be joining the dump Hastert bandwagon in order to get pressure off themselves.

Another point to make. They are POLITICIANS, and honorable ones are few and far between. That also includes Democrats. Politicians are like diapers. They should be changed often, and for the same reason.

I just hope and pray Congressman Hastert does not resign....He said he has not seen the instant messages and I believe him............This is just another example of a left wing smear campaign against the speaker.......

Even though we were talking about the GOP's position on the man. Typical response, everything is the Dems fault, even if the republican did it.

Curse Tony Blankley and The Washington Times! :spin:

Politically, it does more good for the Dems to KEEP Hastert in power, then they can hammer away at him from now until the Dems take the House. But Hastert should resign if he covered up knowledge of Foley's scandal.

Those damn liberals. If they weren't so gay and aborting so many babies this would never have happened.

Your always good for a laugh NP. :rofl

I agree if he knew about the instant messages but he said he didn't.........I find this suspicious that ABC would release these instant messages 1 month before the elections........No hanky pany there right?

I believe you will find that the Wash. times asked for Hastert to resign but ABC News released the instant messages.........

Would you suggest that ABC should have held on to the Instant messages and this story until after Novemeber merely because of upcoming elections?

I would assume you do since you think releasing documented information suggesting a congressmen is a pedophile is merely a "smear campaign".

They held them for 2 years as it is...........

maybe I'm not up to date then. I thought they held the emails for two years and the Instant messages were new?

IMO the instant messages are what make the case here.

Is there nobody else out there bothered by the fact that he would only resign if it helped his party?

I mean, screw America... lets think of the republicans....

( Im certain there are going to be lots of conservatives that will throw similar instances from the past from the Democrats at me that I don't know about and say im a hypocrite even though they know nothing about how I would feel about that situation too. To them I say, shutup dumbass)

This is an out and out fabrication! Prove what you're saying and apologize...

BTW - I read that FOX News had the emails and chose NOT to run the story....how do you explain that?

http://mparent7777.livejournal.com/13055152.html

Since Navy was responding to me It would seem he is saying that ABC held the instant messages for two years, not the emails. Are the instant messages even two years old?
