Could've told us this with a more attractive woman in a picture...

Was there something wrong with all the other non-collegiate S&M clubs?

Meh. As distasteful as I find the topic, I can't seem to find a single reason to object. It's a private institution funded by private monies.

While I am indifferent rather than than finding it distasteful, my logic for saying it should be allowed is the same as yours. I can't think of a solid reason to oppose it.

Well... if more and more students end up signing for Harvard next year, we'll know why.

That probably represents what S&M is to Harvard geeks.

Actually to the point she looks more like a tightlacer than a s&m person, unless we consider tightlacing s&m now, and if that is the case sign me up.

I think she is attractive enough, what is wrong with her?

Disturbing that so many women want to join a sexual organization that teaches them to be submissive to and subservient to men. This Fifty Shades of Gray has single-handedly set back women's rights 40 years.

Ummm, often it's the men who are subservient.

How does it set women's rights back? Women who engage in being submissive in a BDSM relationship do so of their own volition. Also, as has been pointed out, many of the women are in a dominant role.

BTW, most BDSMers will tell you that the submissive is actually the one with the power.

Well that is a different kind of Sales & Marketing.

Seems a bit like they are wanting notoriety got being bold and daring. I really think its a publicity stunt to make them seen more "with it" I still think its like driving a bmw off a cliff every year until you graduate but then again I am not a lawyer.

If the organization is like others of its ilk, it doesn't "teach" ANYONE to be submissive - it merely allows people (be they male or female) to discover/express whether they are dominant or submissive on their own, in a safe and accepting environment. Come to think of it, why would you assume that a submissive woman (or her partner) wouldn't still be concerned with protecting her rights? You are making a lot of assumptions.

Kudos to Harvard. Despite the hypocrisy by many Americans displayed publicly, they often are the ones busted in airport bathrooms and impregnating their mistresses while crowing about "family values." Unlike Europe, sadly many politicians cling to promoting vanilla, unrealistic attitudes about sex. Sexuality is wonderful and healthy, and any education about sex and broadening the narrow-minded views of those repressed it welcome and needed. Nothing distasteful about sex, whether you're into S&M or not.

The hell? "Set back women's rights"? I don't think you know what S&M is. It's a voluntary sexual act between two or more consenting adults. It's not like the guy is like "Oh yeah, you dirty ****, you're not allowed to vote or drive, hell yeah..."

There are plenty of female Dommes and submissive men. BDSM is not about making women subservient. It's about power and sensation play, and it can include any genders in any roles.

That sort of ignorant assumption is what clubs like this are trying to address.

who needs a club for such things?

One of my girlfriend's suite mates was into that along with a few others in 1980, they never felt a need to start a club

Being a professional dominatrix and doing it correctly is a very high income industry and legal (although not well loved by communities). I have a friend who has done this as a lifelong career and the best part is that you don't have to be young and you don't have to be pretty (although its worth more). She's had a lot of fun and now travels around the world doing as she pleases.

Hooray for Harvard..

Women's rights are about freedom of choice, including with sexuality. Playing at being submissive during erotic activities has little to do with whether the person is submissive in other aspects of their lives. Many men, including men with a lot of power in their outside lives, enjoy being submissive in erotic play.

I fail to understand why Harvard, or any college, needs to be involved. At all. Non-academic clubs, I mean. The students are adults. The students can make their own decisions. The students can form their own clubs to their heart's desire. The school should have no say, and the students should seek no official sanction or recognition or approval. The club should stand on it's own on it's own time.

You don't understand this topic, do you?

I didn't know they allowed pets on campus.
