Harris repeats false claim 2024 was ‘closest’ election in 21st century

"Of course, Harris did not lose the closet election of the 21st Century. Trump beat Harris in the electoral college last year, 312-226, which was the widest margin this century beyond former President Barack Obama’s two presidential victories in 2008 and 2012."

Trump got ~77.3 million votes; Harris got ~75.0 million. That’s a margin of about 2.28 million votes (≈ 49.8% to 48.3%). Wikipedia+1

The 2 million fewer people came to vote, which the very margin Trump won by...

As I said you are really bad a math! Get some help on that

The paywall prevents me from seeing whether she was referring to the popular or electoral college vote. Which was it?
Why would she be bragging about a statistic which had no bearing on her losing the election?

Regardless, she was incorrect in both categories.

Irrelevant. Just like Kamala.

Of course that is objectively false.

“Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday repeated her false claim that the 2024 presidential election was the “closest” in the 21st century, saying this means President Donald Trump doesn’t have “a mandate.”

“Harris made the remark during a speech in Houston, Texas, while promoting her new book, 107 Days. She commended her campaign for an “unprecedented” short run against Trump, saying Trump has been running for office “for 10 years.””

Funny that a Trump supporter would find a politician stretching the truth so upsetting.

You would have to ask her.
Regardless, she was incorrect in both categories.
What election in the 21st century was closer in the popular vote than 2024? And you didn’t answer my question. Which one was she referring to? I assume you read the article that you posted. It’s relevant because you claim she was stupid and wrong. It turns out she was referring to the popular vote and that she’s correct, then your entire posting purpose fall short.

Gore won the popular vote by 0.51%

Gore won the popular vote by 0.51%
As others have said, that election technically was not in the 21st century. The 21st century began in 2001.

But I agree with the overall point of the thread that trying to claim the 2024 election was the closest in the 21st century is false. The popular vote is not how one should be looking at it. I think closest most often means how easy would it be for the election to have gone the other way. And I believe the best metric for that is certainly not the popular vote though also not the electoral vote. Instead, the best metric is the margin in the tipping point state. While obviously each state does not swing exactly the same percentage each election, a significant majority of states will usually swing the same way between elections. Therefore, it is easier to swing an election that was won 538 EVs to 0 if every state was won by one vote than it would be to swing a 270-268 election where every state the winner won was by at least 20%.

By that metric, the 21st century elections by tipping point state were:

2016- 0.8% (Wisconsin)
2020- 1.2% (Pennsylvania)
2024- 1.7% (Pennsylvania)
2004- 2.1% (Ohio)
2012- 5.4% (Colorado)
2008- 9.5% (Iowa)

Of course that is objectively false.

Wow, that's really bad. I mean, not as bad as crying about losing elections and making false claims about an election being stolen and rallying yahoos to storm the US Capitol over it, but I guess somewhere in the neighborhood of "bad".

Closest by popular vote, yes. By electoral, no.

I despise Kamala Harris, but at least she conceded her loss.

2024 wasn’t the closest election of the 21st Century
By popular vote it was. By electoral votes, it was Bush v. Kerry.

Of course that is objectively false.

She only needs 36,689 more and she can catch Trump.

A false claim like "The 2020 election was stolen"?

Once again, you make another post making Trump look like the pathological liar that you love so deeply.
You try and poke fun at Harris, while forgetting that you fell for Trump's "stolen election" lies.
At least Harris isn't perpetuating that garage now is she?......lol
