This wouldn't have happened if we didn't have guns...
Regarding animal suffering and hunting...anyone here believe the bear didn't suffer climbing the tree after it had been shot?

Guns are the problem because.....? Because they can be used to kill a bear in a tree and cause it to fall on your hunting partner, killing him?

How is that a "gun problem?"

Seems more like a problem in deductive reasoning to me.

Uncontrollable wildlife leading to overpopulation, animal starvation and dangerous interactions with humans are a bigger problem. Hunting is a valuable tool to help maintain a healthy ecosystem.

But all you can think of is “guns bad”. :ROFLMAO:

The Second Amendment is the problem.

The 2A is outdated, obsolete. It was created to ensure that the USA could quickly raise an army to defend the nation because there was to be no standing army since the colonialists rightly feared the British Army being used to burst into homes and arrest without warrant.

Because of the 2A, we cannot properly regulate guns.

Responsible people should be allowed to have guns. Dangerous nutcases should not. It was a mistake to make gun ownership a universal right. Guns are now the leading cause of death for American children.

Bullshite. Source your claim that this bear was culled.

Stunning how wildlife took care of that issue without us for millenia.

The gun killed the bear that killed the hunter. No guns? That hunter is alive...

And so is the bear.

or your buddy....

You're not aware of the culls that are state sponsored, administered, and supervised that they refer to as "hunting seasons"?

Then we came along and decided we didn't care for predators gutting our children and livestock.

Obsolete how? Why?

And how would you "regulate" guns beyond how we already regulate them?

I agree that "dangerous nutcases" should not be allowed to have guns - but how would you propose to go about determining who is a "dangerous nutcase" and who isn't?

And btw, your assertion about guns being the leading cause of death for American children has been proven wrong.

Yea we decided we would rather have our children killing our children instead.

Register and insure the weapons. Remove 'weapons of war' from civil society. Allow common sense gun laws.

It's not that difficult for guns to be safely integrated into civil society, but the gun nuts think anything that helps keep people safe from gun violence intrudes on their rights, rights they would never offer to a group of people that may discover another deadly weapon in the future.

I thought your thread was about a bear?

So I guess the takeaway is that if the bear had been shot with a registered and insured gun, it wouldn't have fallen on the guy.

Just like the use of all those registered and insured motor vehicles never results in accidents.

I don't think a lot of thought was given to initiating this thread.

The story seems to indicate the bear quit climbing and started falling upon being shot. The shooter and the guy under the tree should have anticipated that though.

How did a story about a hunting incident devolve into a diatribe about firearms???

FYI...in 2023, there were 2,892 black bears harvested. The bear population continues to thrive and grow, with numbers forecast at 18,000 but anticipated to be at 20,000.

Of the 2,892 bears harvested, 728 were taken by archers, and 395 by muzzleloading hunters.

Watching kids get off the school bus today, wondering how this affects them and their parents. This ain't no way to live.

Hunting bears is dangerous.
