Gun Control Is Racist

Blacks have as much of a right to defend themselves as anyone else, particularly those who live in high crime areas.

In fact, the second amendment was used for blacks to protect their families from southern democrats who disagreed with the elimination of slavery, the grant of full rights and citizenship.

Most “gun grabbers” are urban dwellers who read daily of gun crimes in communities of color, and prefer they be quiet unarmed victims and stay whete they belong.

I'm sure white Southerners were on board with this myth. :lamo

Since when has your side ever been worried about eliminating racism?

One of the main goals of the NRA was to teach freed blacks how to shoot because they were being attacked by racist Democrats in the South. when Democrats called cheap handguns that were favored by poor blacks in the inner cities "Saturday night Specials" and were targeted by Democrats for banning, the NRA and others noted the racist nature of that action. When gun banners demand imposing costs upon those who legally own guns-such as idiotic insurance requirements, gun rights advocates have noted such actions have a disparate impact on blacks.

Right you are. Back in the day (before I was appointed to the DOJ) when I was counsel for a huge NRA affiliated organization, I was constantly on the news and speaking before groups such as the Cincinnati City Council. I cannot tell you how many times, wealthy suburban women-friends of my mother especially-would tell me on the down low that they didn't have problems with people "like me" owning guns but inner city blacks-well that was a different matter.

1791: Bill of Rights ratified
1861-1865: Civil War
1871: NRA founded

Chuckie's timeline is way off, or at best, his comment was not clear.

What a hilarious post.

You have no evidence to support your ludicrous claim that “One of the main goals of the NRA was to teach freed blacks how to shoot”. Is that a meme going through the circles you run in? Totally false.

Absolutely true the southern Democrats were racist. Because they were the conservatives of the day (back when the Republicans of the North were the liberals of the day). Just like the southern Republicans are the conservatives of today. Completely misleading to make people believe it’s a “Democrat” thing as if related to today’s Dems. No. But it’s related to today’s southern conservatives.

You using the term “disparate impact” is a laugh. You don’t even believe in it, do you? Where guns and black people crossover with disparate impact is those with CCW getting shot, shackled or having a gun held on them by LEO when stopped in their cars and saying they’re carrying and have a permit.

Hilarious.

gun rights advocates have noted such actions have a disparate impact on blacks.

I wonder if someone will eventually file a disparate impact lawsuit regarding certain gun control laws which have a disproportionate negative impact on blacks. This is a constitutionally protected right we're talking about. My understanding is disparate impact suits are only for housing and employment, but do you think the concept would apply if there were evidence that complying with a certain gun control law disproportionately disarms blacks more than whites?

Anytime someone suggests a voter identification requirement is suggested the extra burden and expense is pointed to as being racist targeting people of color, yet the say people fail to recognize the extra burden licensing or fees place on people of color and then deny any racism is at play. Typical Double Standards and hypocritical policy choices on display.

what does that have to do with my correct post. There were two main motivations behind the founding of the NRA by former Union officers. 1) the woeful marksmanship of recruits and 2) the Klan's nastiness against freemen

it shouldn't get to that-courts should strike down the laws as being unconstitutional before they have time to work a disparate impact hardship on blacks

for all those words, you never even attempted to address by point. and the rest of it are blatant lies

Obviously you missed the point so let's go over this in sequential order.

There. That should be enough for you to figure it out. But will you is the question. :)

since he didn't discuss timing, what he said is not inaccurate. Many of the racist whites in the south were upset that slavery had ended. Now you seem to be reading his claim as saying blacks exercised second amendment rights while slavery was in place.

Then you support voter id and gun licenses. Just to be consistent. Right?

I support mandatory ID and Licenses as long as the ID and Licenses are provided free of charge. I also feel the licenses acts as a nationally recognized CCP. I don't support a registration program.

Tell trump to get on it.

And burn your NRA card

Gun control that ONLY applies to black people is racist.

The rest is fine

Which is pretty much all gun control in the US.

Its not a coincidence that the areas that have the most gun control..often are the areas that have the most minorities.. usually black people.

Who do you think is more likely to pass a background check.. given the racism in our justice system and police. Do you see cops breaking down the doors to the rich and famous to see if they have drugs?

What about in black communities?

If we did a study on applicants for firearms permits.. do you really think that a black person and a white person (with the same history) are just as likely to receive the permit?

Who is more likely to be able to afford gun permits, and storage facilities and training... wealthier white people. Or poor minorities?

Gun control is all about racism. .

Factually incorrect. Not a single gun law in this country applies only to black people.

When you make up such nonsense you are dismissed from the debate

That which disproportionately affects the poor disproportionately affects black people. That which disproportionately affects black people can be said to be racist but is it intentional?

All economic class-dependent legislation is, in effect, racist. Something being racist in impact is not the same as something being racist in intent.
