Hi Serenity. I agree, although I'm not surprised that they closed it. The forum has largely been unmoderated for many years and declined in both the number of forum posters as well as the civility of the remaining posters. That said, I think the issue was also one of economics, as the newspaper publisher who hosted the forum has been bleeding money for years (they actually had to do a recent 10-1 reverse stock split recently to keep from being delisted from NASDAQ).

Here's the message that they supplied for the politics forum after closing it (I redacted the URL and paper's name to protect the guilty).

Thanks for the reply. All new members are welcome here. I know things can get heated at times, but it doesn't hurt any of us to take a step back and look at our own behavior too. We're all human and have good and bad days. That being said, there's not too many people we all likely can't find some common ground with. (Which is why it's a good idea to try and participate in other sections of the forum here rather than just one or two.)
