Grand Rapids welcomes Sarah Palin as she kicks off her book tour
KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM/Detroit Free Press) Large crowds are gathering inside Woodland Mall this afternoon as people wait for a chance to meet Sarah Palin.
Everyone in line inside received wrist bands this morning for the opportunity to meet the former Vice Presidential candidate. Many were out well before dawn. It was 4:55 when the first cheer went up.
"Sarah! Sarah! Sarah"
And that's 4:55 this morning when the thermometer had dipped into the 30s. But the 500 or so people in line didn't mind the sleepless night or the onset of winter.
"What she represents is what we're standing in line for," said Robin Case, 44, of Traverse City, who set up a chair and sleeping bag at 9 p.m. Tuesday to make sure she got the chance to meet Sarah Palin, former Alaska Governor and vice presidential candidate. "She's real and she's standing up for what we believe in."
Palin was scheduled to begin her "Going Rogue" book tour at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers at the Woodland Mall in Kentwood.
By 7 a.m., the line had swelled to more than 1,500 people as Barnes & Noble wrapped orange wristbands around Palin fans' wrists.

Glenn Beck was in Longview a while back, he only got around 4,000. So this is impressive.I just heard that the number of people who showed up today is estimated to be around 10,000.
Not too bad for a political "nobody" like her, huh?

Palin has a huge following. Hopefully it'll last through 2012 or perhaps 2016.
Just imagine how many people will show up in a big city?
is she going to any big cities? lol......Just imagine how many people will show up in a big city?
no, i think she did some pageant walkin'.Did she give a progress report on her Death Panels?
is she going to any big cities? lol......
okay.....but she's staying away for the REALLY big cities....you know, the cities where libs live.....
When I say "I am going to the big city", it's Grand Rapids. It is plenty big enough to be called a big city. Metro population of over 3/4 of a million people.

Why do liberals keep on starting these Palin threads?
lol.....i actually liked ford. he seemed, well, nice. There are only like 100 cities in the country bigger...
By the way, Grand Rapids is much more interesting than Palin. It is the home of one of the most underrated presidents, Gerald Ford.

Well, that's too big. I think she should come to Portland, ME. We are a little city. Full of 'Real Americans'. I would go with my camcorder and film Chuckie in line. I bet she'd be in the front. Maybe with a funny sign. Maybe a hat. It would be very fun. Good times.... good times.

The mall that she went to was the Woodland mall, which I go to at least a couple times a year. It is hilarious in that usually at the mall, it is about 1/3 to 1/2 black people there. The footage of the event from yesterday had a total of zero black people in it. I am sure at least a few blacks attended the event, but in tiny numbers. I do not know what to make of that, but it was a glaring difference from usual at Woodland.
It was a sea of white faces, from what I saw.
Wonder what happened to the black people who usually go there? Stay away? Or just drowned out in the sea?
That's a good liberal... Pull the race card.
Give yourself a cookie.

Um ... race card? wtf are you talking about? Someone who lives in the area told me the usual crowd at the mall is 1/3 to 1/2 black people. That ain't what was in the Palin crowd images.
 I do not think you know what playing the race card means.
