GOPers, tell me why you would be upset if the Dems packed the court if they win control of congress and the Presidency?

No Harry Reid did NOT change the SCOTUS nominee to simple majority, that was McConnell. Sorry but you aren't using the "He did it too mommyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" excuse. McConnell cried and whined and then changed the rules. Your LIES mean nothing.

Perhaps you should educate yourself?

Reid triggers ‘nuclear option’ to change Senate rules, end repeat filibusters

Again, the Dems are the ones who started this game of "lets change the rules so we can get our way." All McConnell did was respond in kind.

First off, it was Harry Reid who started this shit show, not McConnell. Reid was the one who effectively killed the filibuster by bringing in the "Nuclear Option." Turn-about is fair play.

Secondly, its literally the President's job to appoint judges. You can't nuke the whole system for operating as was always intended.
I always maintained it was Trump's right to appoint a judge. Just because I think he is incompetent to do so is moot as it is in the Constitution. I just find it funny that right wingers love to talk how the majority of the country believes what they believe, yet wouldn't dare let this go to the American people.

One good reason. Conservative judges can and have turned out liberal when they actually start voting on cases.

That almost never happens with liberal judges.
So its okay for republicans to pack the court because they make more mistakes during appointments?

Nothing I've ever said. Sooo....

McConnell DIDN'T HAVE to change the rules, he did. So you LIED and were just caught in that lie since Republicans DID CHANGE the rules and whined and cried. Your lying comments don't change that. What is it about Trump supporters that cause them to LIE so much?

Filling vacancies isn't "packing the court."

Again... It's literally the President's job.

Sorry what they did was packing the court. The blocked obama's appointee for a year because they wanted to let the people decide. Not sure why it no longer applies. That is packing the court.

It is, and it's the senates job to give them hearings for confirmation and give an up and down vote. McConnell and the traitorous Republicans that support this obstruction should be removed from office.

Dude, quit being all pissy. No one "lied" about anything.

The simple fact of the matter is that Dems were the ones who started this "nuclear option" arms race the two parties are in at the moment, not Republicans. Don't get mad just because we turned it around on you.

You said Republicans don't change the rules when they lose and that was a LIE, so yes, you LIED. When Republicans couldn't get the votes they wanted, they CHANGED the rules for a SCOTUS nominee to give just a bare minimum. What makes Trump supporters lie so much?

The packing the court arm race was also started by mcconell. He blocked obama's appointees and approved trumps at record speed.

No, they blocked his appointment because they controlled both the House and the Senate, and there was literally no reason to allow Obama to appoint another justice.

So you won’t object when Biden fills the vacancies on an expanded court?
Hope they do it at record speed. I think they should have hearings for all of the candidates at the same time.

So you won’t object when Biden fills the vacancies on an expanded court?

And you won't object when Republicans do the same thing when they take office again, and our court system effectively implodes, and loses all legitimacy?

This was unprecedented. Dems controlled the senate in 1988 and confirmed reagan's appointee. There was no rule preventing the gop from giving garland a fair hearing. That is what the dems would have done pre 2016. Now. Mcconnell has created a cluster**** of a situation.

You mean that the... Opposition Party didn't allow the Party in power to do everything it wanted?!

*le gasp!* Say it is not so!! *swoon*

You realize this is ridiculous, right?

There is literally *nothing* in the Constitution saying that the Senate is obligated to either hold a hearing, or confirm the President's nominees.

Of course not. And dems will do it again when they get power again. Thank the turtleman. But to add new vacancies, the gop will need the house, senate, and presidency. At least another decade until they get all three.

Yeah, well, that was 1988. The DNC wasn't made up of a bunch of hysterical borderline Communists back then.

That is what the dems would have done pre 2016.

Yeah... Sure they would have.

Yeah. Blocking a nominee for a year was a novel concept. Democrats would not have thought of doing something like that and I gave you an example of when they didn't.

Sooo... Nothing makes no nevermind to you then... Just so long as your side wins.

The Dems should do exactly as the GOP dod fill lower court positions when they come avaliable and fill any Supreme Court positions when they come avaliable.

What they shouldn't do is act like spoiled brats and try to increase the size of the court unless they are willing to have the same thing done in a few years when the power shifts

The GOP should have thought of that sooner.

All gloves are off. If the dems take it all back, they would be justified. Karma's a bitch.

the court is not meant to be a political tool, nor is it meant to be activist.

Amy Comey Barrett is completely qualified to be a justice and was picked as one legally and fairly as prescribed in the constitution.

using the court as a political tool to increase the size of whenever you do not have enough of the right number of members is making an absurd abomination of our entire legal and political system.

Sort of correct, except ignoring GOP hypocrisy. Trump and McConnell have demonstrated that anything goes when it comes to political power. "Using the court as a political tool" and "absurd abominations" have been characteristic of the last four years.

And "activism" is in the eye of the beholder.

I mean, the GOP has spent the past four years packing the whole Federal judicial system including the SCOTUS. Isn't what is good for the goose good for the gander. Why should the Dems not do as you have done? At least they would not be lying about it as so many GOP senators did when Obama sent them a SCOTUS candidate. The constitution does not mention the number of the members on the SCOTUS and it has been different in the past. It has been both five, seven and ten before it became 9, as it is today. So why not if like you they have the power?
The court first had 9 justices in 1837, in 1866 that number was reduce to 7 to prevent Johnston from making two appointments. Then in 1869 it was again raised to 9 and has been that way since. So making a move now, one threatened by the democrats is clearly a power move to change the court because they don't have the patience to work within the system as it's been for 150 years. Democrats don't have the votes to create the changes they want so they intend to do it by rearranging the Supreme Court. It's dangerous to the country when a party wants to change the rules for the sake of their power. The change from 61 votes for federal judges by Harry Reid blew up in the faces of democrats when Trump won in 2016 and now they want to find a way to get it back.

Mcconell fired the first shots.
