"More than 100 Republican lawmakers are asking for an investigation in to the amount of federal funding that has been awarded to health centers that also provide abortion, including Planned Parenthood.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), as well as House Pro-Life Caucus co-Chair Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), led a letter Friday to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), asking for a report on the funding sent to the groups over the past three years."

I'm confused. Help me out here. I thought abortion was a state matter now. Why are the feds getting involved?

OK, but if X is a state government matter then why is there federal government funding involved?

I wasn’t aware that being pregnant was a disease.

Nor am I, knowing that it is in fact a natural process that leads to the reproduction of many Earth species, including Homo Sapiens. It is also in the main, a simple process barring a few exceptions regarding problems with a birth. Humans, like most species who use this form of reproduction, have been doing it naturally for as long as our species has existed.

Here's a primer for you.

Pregnancy can cause a number of health issues, including ones that can result in death of the mother.

"To health centers that provide abortion"

Abortion is now a state issue. Why single out them?
It was never a states right issue. That talking point was just the MAGAs way to defend the ideological Hobbs decision. The next step is to ban abortion federally via the same ideologically driven SCOTUS.

Because the Genital Obsessed Party will not stop until all women and girls are literal property of the state.

Federal funds are not permitted to be used for abortions. They can go to Planned Parenthood, whose most infamous standard of care is abortion, provided that the federal funds are not used for abortion. I see nothing wrong with finding out precisely how much money the federal government is spending on this non profit "women's health care" organization.

Subjugation of women is a right wing goal, so this isn't a surprise.

I don’t see it that way. It seems that “the feds” are concerned with what federal spending is being used to fund.
Federal funding does not generally go towards abortions, per the Hyde Amendment.

States receive federal funding for loads of things "states" are responsible for: schools, roads, infrastructure, pollution control/remediation, etc.

Also, since such facilities provide many services, not just abortions, has there been some ruling that reproductive counseling, services, exams, etc etc are only "state matters?"

Does this answer your question?

?? Health only involves diseases? Not injuries, medical conditions, preventative care, mental health, etc?

Great pain, suffering, permanent debilitation, and dying from accidents and diseases have also been "done naturally for as long as our species has existed.

Name some other examples where we deny persons a much safer medical procedure to prevent that? What justifies denying women that? When did we lose the right to consent to our own lives and bodily autonomy?
