The head of the Republican National Committee, responding to demands from increasingly worried party leaders, spent nearly an hour Wednesday on the phone with Donald Trump, urging the presidential candidate to tone down his inflammatory comments about immigration that have infuriated a key election constituency.
The call from Chairman Reince Priebus, described by donors and consultants briefed on the conversation and confirmed by the RNC, underscores t
he extent to which Trump has gone from an embarrassment to a cause for serious alarm among top Republicans in Washington and nationwide.
Trump loves $. He isn't (really?) this stupid is he? He is hurting his short-term profits, what is his long game here? Is he secretly trying to sabotage the GOP?
He isn't stupid at all. He is straightforward. He speaks the truth as he sees it, unlike politicians. He says what he believes unlike politicians. His problem is not so much the content of what he says but rather the style with which he says it. He won't win any elections but he will get his message out.
His "message" is one of a pig-ignorant, egocentric blowhard.

Unfortunately, a meaningful percentage of illegal immigrants from Mexico are criminals or commit crimes and that percentage is enabled by the open border policy. That isn't opinion nor is it a slam against Mexicans or other latinos. It is simply fact and a plainly obvious one. But a lot of people don't want to hear it because they want votes after they engineer the "path to citizenship."
This post, like Trump's blather, shows the problem with most anti-immigrant rhetoric- it is opinion being presented as fact. All through history a minority has been picked as the scapegoat for a nation's ills. From Armenians in Turkey to Jews in Germany, a people have been picked to be attacked. Sad thing is some very otherwise decent folks go along with the attacks.
And Trump is still polling well. The racist leg of the GOP is wide, and runs deep.
It is not racism. It is an understanding that illegal immigration causes problems that could be avoided if we chose to fix it. Why is racism a stupid excuse for nearly everything on the left? It's just nuts.
Why do the people on the right, always, always says it isn't racism, when most of the time it is?
Days after that kid killed 9 in a church many cons were saying it wasn't racism that caused that kid to kill, some on Fox said they were shot because they were Christians.
Face it. The GOP has a problem. Dealing with it is better than ignoring it.
BTW I'm all for fixing the immigration problem. But calling immigrants names and calling them criminals isn't the way to address the problem.
I watch Fox news and never heard that. All I heard was that the murders were racially motivated and proof was provided. If someone said they were shot because they were christians, then that would have been a minority opinion for sure.
But Trump didn't call them names. He described the behavior of some of them.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
Trump is putting Republicans in a tough spot. If this forum is anything to go by, many people on the right sympathize with his comments. However, if you think Trump's statements are anywhere near being "right", you probably weren't going to vote for a Democrat in 2016. That said, Republicans are starting to become worried about the Hispanic vote. Trump doesn't have enough pull to convert people, however his comments can keep quite a few people away from the Republican party in 2016.
It will definitely be interesting watching the RNC pull this juggling act until Trump bows out. On one hand, borderline ****s like Coulter and Trump going after Hispanics, and on the other the RNCs push to make "inroads with Hispanics". Which will they pick? Who knows. I just know that what they do in the next year could very well determine how the Hispanic vote goes for the next 20-30 years.
Fox News: Charleston shooting is an attack on faith, not race
Yeah. It's a major news network. They said it and as far as I know never retracted it, or apologized.
You got it backwards. He's saying the majority are bad and only some, he assumes, are good.
GOP leaders fear damage to party
:shock::shock::roll:

I read the transcript. Nowhere did anybody say it wasn't a racially motivated murder. The pastor said it was too bad it occurred in a church because it plays to war on Christianity. I don't think anybody needs to apologize.
I'm a latino myself. Spanish is my native language. I understand fully what motivates illegal immigrants. I'm a huge supporter of immigration but not illegal immigration. The left supports it not because it is good for America but because it means votes after they complete the "path to citizenship." If the left wants to get more support for it they should pursue a policy of a pathway to legal immigrant status. That takes the voting out of the equation. I think most people on the right would support legal immigrant status for those illegals who have not commited crimes and if we move toward legal immigration instead. The whole thing is so transparent. It is pure politics but it shouldn't be.
The DailyKos post of Media Matters post involved a conversation that occurred shortly after the killing, and before any facts were known. Geeze, can these Progressive Machine flugelhorns get any more laughable?
As the tens of thousands of victims of illegal aliens can testify, Trump was 100% accurate in his statement. Why not come to Southern California and see for yourself. Perhaps your vantage point in the Northeast allows you to stay away from the truth.
Yeah there's no immigrants in the Northeast. It's lilly white here. LOL
psssssst. My neighbors are Mexican. Cross the street there's a woman from Ireland, her neighbors are from Greece. Italians kitty corner from them. Germans, Poles and all the rest are neighbors too. It's a regular UN here, always has been. But yeah I don't know what the hell is going on.
Now I'm sure you are going to say you are only talking about illegal immigrants. There's plenty of them here too. And I agree something needs to be done, it's a mess. But you Cons got to take the partisan, everything is Obama and the Dems fault glasses off and realize the GOP is just as guilty. They had many, many chances to fix the mess, but they don't. A couple days ago I posted an example of even in Texas, where they want to pass bills that have tough penalties for employers who hire illegals, but they back off because as one GOP politician in TX said, if they don't pass the bill with exceptions a large portition of Tx. population would end up in jail.
Instead of just nodding blindly when GOP politicians talk about immigration, hold their feet to the fire. Ask them why in the past they did nothing. Ask them if the will buck their business donors who like and want cheap labor immigrants.
A hint that the RNC's appeasement of Trump's candidacy out of fear of a third party run may not spare the Republican Party from an independent Trump candidacy should Trump lose the nomination (as I expect he will):
In a wide-ranging, 30-minute interview with The Washington Post, the billionaire real estate mogul and reality-television star also said he has serious concerns about other GOP candidates and refused to commit to supporting the eventual nominee in the general election...
Pressed about whether he would back the Republican ticket if he fails to win the nomination himself, Trump left the door open for a third-party bid of his own. “I would have to see who the nominee is,” he said.
Trump vows long campaign, won
A courageous choice is one that is made when the risks-benefits of maintaining or changing a position are not fully known. A choice made after it becomes evident a position is not viable and there is no alternative but to shift position is not a courageous choice. The former is an example of an act of leadership. The latter is an example of a lack of leadership.
